Ligue 2: Reims batter Red Star 4-1 and move up to second

Ten minutes of joy for the home fans

Red Star led. For ten minutes.

Khaoui put them in front, the crowd started dreaming, and then Reims woke up. Three minutes later Kotto had levelled it. The game was effectively over, though nobody in the stands knew that yet.

El-Kachati took it from there, scoring in the 33rd and again in the 53rd. Soumano finished it from the spot in the 78th. Four away goals, one for the hosts.

Second place, one point off Saint-Etienne

Nicolas Usai can breathe. His side sit second in Ligue 2 after four rounds, a single point behind the leaders from Saint-Etienne, and the bright start is starting to look like something more than early-season noise.

The manner of it says as much as the scoreline. A team that ships the opener and answers within three minutes is a team that trusts itself. Reims never looked rattled after Khaoui’s goal.

Red Star slide to eighth. They had made a decent start to the campaign until this. Getting over a night like that quickly is the whole job now.

Annecy and Metz cancel each other out

Different mood at Annecy. Savanier curled a free-kick in for the Grenats on 24 minutes, and nine minutes later young Kadan Young hauled it back level.

1-1. Neither side found anything else.

Metz walk away with a point and a line in the record that matters more: four rounds, no defeats. Not yet a run to build a season on, but they have avoided the trapdoor so far.

The two are neighbours in the table, Annecy sixth with Metz just behind. A draw that moves nobody, which is Ligue 2 in a sentence.

The round is not finished. More games to come, and the table will look different by Sunday night.
