Seven million on the table
Two Italian clubs made their move on the same day. According to Foot Mercato, Monza and Parma have lodged a 7 million euro bid with Rangers for Djeidi Gassama. The reply from Scotland? Not enough.
Glasgow paid 2.4 million euro to prise him away from Sheffield Wednesday a year ago. Selling him for three times that fee would already look like a tidy bit of business. But Rangers reckon they can do better than that. And the winger is tied down until 2029. They hold all the cards.

A Paris academy kid who left to play
Gassama is 22. He came through the PSG system and even picked up a Ligue 1 title in 2022 before realising he needed to be somewhere else.
So he headed to England, then Scotland. At Sheffield Wednesday, he played 84 Championship matches, scoring 12 and setting up four more. Enough to convince Rangers to take the punt.
The Mauritania international, capped three times, kicked on last season. Four goals in the Champions League play-offs alone turned a few heads across Europe. Monaco even tried a loan move last winter, but got nowhere.
Serie A could be next
Monza and Parma are not chasing the top end of the Italian table. Both clubs want pace out wide and a player who can break a game open on his own. Gassama ticks that box.
The problem is the price. The window shuts in a few days and Rangers are in no rush to sell. The player, meanwhile, has to weigh up what a more tactical league and a bigger shop window might mean. For now, nothing is done.
