Seville vs Atletico Madrid: the leaders host a side already wobbling 
Six points from six, five goals scored, top of the table: Seville have made the strongest start in La Liga. Nobody saw that coming this summer.
The Andalusians welcome Atletico Madrid on Saturday 29 August at 21:30, Spanish time, at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium. Matchday three, and it already carries real weight.
Atletico have four points after a 2-0 win over Malaga and a 2-2 draw with Villarreal. The return is fine. The mood is anything but.
Julian Alvarez was booed and insulted by the Metropolitano crowd during the Villarreal match, before heading straight for the dressing room at full time. His agent, Fernando Hidalgo, then took aim at the Madrid hierarchy on social media.
While the capital club deal with that mess, Seville keep getting results. The 3-1 win at San Mames on 22 August remains the standout result of the early season in Spain.
Both sides are scoring, conceding and, crucially, striking late. Seville buried Rayo in the 90th+6, Atletico levelled against Villarreal in the 86th. This one has every chance of turning in the final minutes.
Both clubs have conceded exactly the same number of goals: two in two games. So the difference is up front, where Seville lead 5-4.
The Pizjuan drew 36,777 fans for the visit of Rayo Vallecano. The Metropolitano pulled in 61,978 for Villarreal’s trip.
Seville score in every scenario 
Five goals in two league games, including three after the break in Bilbao. Seville’s attack is the most productive in the division so far.
The opening weekend set the tone against Rayo Vallecano. Trailing after Palazon struck in the 32nd minute, the Andalusians turned it around through Guridi from the spot in the 52nd and Fernandez, also from the spot, in the 90th+6.
The trip to San Mames confirmed the trend. Oso opened the scoring in the 15th minute, Chidera Ejuke doubled the lead in the 51st and Isaac Romero made it safe in the 57th.
Two goals conceded in two matches, only one of them against Athletic: the defensive unit is holding up. That’s a balance Seville haven’t shown for a long time.
The Andalusian club also knows how to make the most of set pieces and penalties, with two converted from two attempts. Against a rugged Madrid defence, that could be decisive.
The Pizjuan is finally getting a team that offers more than a scrap for survival. The attendance of 36,777 against Rayo shows the fans have bought back in.
Chidera Ejuke and Isaac Romero both found the net at San Mames within six minutes of each other. That ability to land two quick blows killed the game before the hour.
Guridi and Fernandez both converted their penalties against Rayo, one of them in the 90th+6. That sort of calm under pressure is worth its weight over a season.
Seville haven’t looked this balanced between attack and defence for several years. Six points from six is the best start in Spanish football.

Atletico Madrid are losing points and losing their cool 
Four points from six is not a disaster on paper. The issue is what they’ve shown and the mess around it.
Against Malaga, they had to wait until the 70th minute and a goal from Lee, then the 85th and a strike from Baena, to crack open a one-sided game. Two late goals against a promoted side leaves awkward questions.
The visit of Villarreal was even more worrying. Atletico led through Pubill in the 59th minute, then conceded two penalties, converted by Moreno in the 65th and Mikautadze in the 76th.
It took a goal from Simeone Baldini in the 86th to rescue a point in front of 61,978 fans. The whole thing left a sour taste at the Metropolitano.
The Julian Alvarez situation is poisoning Atletico’s start to the season. The club have set a price for his exit, the Argentina striker was jeered by his own supporters, and his camp has gone after president Miguel Gil Marin.
In pure numbers, Atletico also have four goals in two matches, so they are matching Seville for output. But they just showed they can lose control of a match in 15 minutes.
Lee and Baena unlocked the Malaga game in the final quarter of an hour. Atletico are scoring, yes, but far too often they leave it until the last half hour.
Pubill had put Atletico on the right path in the 59th minute against Villarreal. Two penalties conceded in 11 minutes and the whole thing flips.
Simeone Baldini saved a point in the 86th, but the message was still poor. A defence that gives away two penalties in one match has a positioning problem. Seville will have noticed.

Our prediction: Both teams to score
Seville have scored in both of their games and conceded in both of them. Atletico have also found the net in every round, with four goals on the board.
Both attacks are striking late and both defences are giving chances away: three of the four league games played by these clubs this season have seen both teams score or come very close to it. The Pizjuan, with a lively crowd and a side playing on the front foot, does not look like a 0-0 venue.
