Fifteen hits in eight games
Corey Seager has decided this is the moment. The Texas shortstop has posted multi-hit games in seven of his past eight, going 15-for-31 in that stretch, and he dragged the Rangers to the top of the American League West while doing it. Texas sits a half-game clear of Houston.
Monday showed the pattern. Seager went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, Jake Burger, Ezequiel Duran and Wyatt Langford each collected two hits and two RBIs, and the Rangers hammered the White Sox 11-2 in the series opener. That run total was a season high for Texas.
“For us, it’s just about trusting each other and getting guys hot again,” Burger said. “It felt like all of us were cold at the same time there for a few weeks. Obviously, (Seager) is coming around, doing his thing.”

Chicago leads its division and still looks shaky
The White Sox remain first in the AL Central, but they have dropped five of eight since sweeping Detroit on the road between August 14 and 16. Their offense on Monday came from the wrong end of the order. Tristan Peters, batting eighth, hit a two-run homer and has now gone deep in three straight games, while Munetaka Murakami and Colson Montgomery struck out three times each.
“You get slugging at the bottom of the lineup, you’ve got a chance, you know,” manager Will Venable said. “We’ve seen that from him, and really, the reason why our offense has been so good is the length of the lineup.”
deGrom against a pitcher who cannot buy runs
Jacob deGrom (9-8, 3.77) starts for Texas tonight. He held Washington to one hit across six scoreless innings on Thursday, struck out 10 and passed 2,000 for his career in the process. He has never beaten the White Sox, going 0-1 with a 3.28 ERA in four career starts against them.
Chicago counters with left-hander Anthony Kay (9-6, 3.96), who owns a 2.66 ERA across four August starts and has still lost four of his past five at Rate Field. His team scored seven runs total in those four defeats.
