Tatis opens it and closes it
Fernando Tatis Jr. drove a 396-foot shot into the second deck of the Western Metal Supply building in the third inning. He added a 390-foot blast off Taylor Rogers in the eighth. Between those two swings San Diego turned a tied game into a rout and completed a three-game sweep of Minnesota with an 8-1 win on Sunday.
Tatis finished with four hits and four runs driven in. It was the 15th multi-homer game of his career and took him to 17 home runs on the season.

The sixth inning broke it open
Minnesota held the game level at 1-1 into the bottom of the sixth. Then the bullpen came apart. Kody Funderburk walked Luis Campusano and pinch-hitter Austin Hays with one out. Jeff Hoffman relieved him and walked Xander Bogaerts to load the bases. Luis Rengifo grounded a two-run double down the right field line and Tatis followed with a two-run single. San Diego led 5-1 and had produced a four-run inning for the third straight game.
Jackson Merrill cracked his 21st homer with one out in the seventh, a drive estimated at 414 feet. Bogaerts doubled in another run to make it 7-1.
Buehler keeps rolling, Padres hit a season marker
Walker Buehler took the win and moved to 8-6. He allowed four hits and one run across six innings, walked nobody, struck out four and faced the minimum through four. Brooks Lee accounted for the only damage in the fifth, driving the 10th pitch of his at-bat into the right field seats for his 20th home run of the year.
Bailey Ober worked around traffic for Minnesota, going five innings on 87 pitches while giving up four hits and three walks. San Diego stranded six runners during his outing and needed the bullpen collapse to finally cash in.
The sweep was San Diego’s 21st win in 28 games. It pushed the club 11 games above .500 for the first time since May 23.
