Two birdies to close, one shot clear
Ryan Armour signed for a seven-under 63 at Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club on Saturday and leads the Rogers Charity Classic at 12 under, a stroke ahead of the field with one round left in Calgary.
He was in no mood to celebrate the number. The 15th, a 490-yard par 4, cost him a double bogey and briefly dropped him to five under for the day. Birdies at the 17th and 18th repaired the damage.
“It was going nice,” Armour said. “But it’s golf. It’s 18 holes, it’s 54 holes out here. Bad things are going to happen and you’ve gotta adjust. You gotta make some birdies.”

Alker’s 61 was the round of the week
Steven Alker of New Zealand went nine under in a single afternoon, eagling the par-5 11th and adding eight birdies against one bogey. The 61 lifted the New Zealander to 11 under and outright second.
Armour understands what those numbers mean over 54 holes, where a leader has no time to sit on anything. “Guys shot 61s and 62s today,” he said. “People can come from four or five shots back and make a run at you, so you’ve got to go out and play well.”
The arithmetic backs him. Nine players share third at 10 under, two off the lead, and three of them reached it with 62s on Saturday: Zach Johnson, Bo Van Pelt and J.J. Henry.
The first-round leaders are still in range
Richard Green and Rob Labritz opened with matching 63s on Friday, then matched again on Saturday with 67s apiece. Green won this title last year. Both sit in that nine-way tie for third alongside Brian Gay (64), Michael Block (65), Australian Michael Wright (64) and Spain’s Miguel Angel Jimenez (66).
Mike Weir remains the leading Canadian at the only PGA Tour Champions event staged in Canada. He is tied for 18th at seven under, five behind Armour with 18 holes to play.
