The Green and Whites eventually won 3-0 away to Lüneburger SK Hansa on Saturday afternoon in the first round of the German Cup. It was still 1-0 at half-time. They had to wait until the hour mark before the gap really opened up.
Niclas Füllkrug converted a penalty in the 53rd minute for the second goal. The third came later, and Bremen were able to finish the job without any late drama.

Füllkrug, back where it all began
The Germany international returned to Bremen on loan this summer. It was at this club that he rebuilt his career after a few difficult years, before moving on to Dortmund and then England. Seeing him pull on the green and white again and score in his first cup game has a special feel for the Weserstadion faithful.
For Lüneburg, the day will live long in the memory. The club had come through the Lower Saxony regional cup for amateur sides. Drawing a Bundesliga club is the kind of tie that can pay for a whole season.
Few shocks in the first round
The big names mostly did the business this weekend. RB Leipzig blew Trier away 6-0, Hoffenheim beat Aue 4-0 and Bayer Leverkusen won 4-0 at Wiesbaden. Hannover 96 even put nine past Hemelingen.
TSV 1860 Munich, though, lost 1-0 at home to Holstein Kiel, a second-tier side. Hertha Berlin had to scrape through on penalties in Saarbrücken.
