Fifteen million on a teenager with one Serie A appearance
That is the option Ajax negotiated. Not a rounding error, not squad-filler money, and it tells you what Amsterdam think they have found.
Ajax confirmed on Saturday that Abdoulaye Camara has joined from Udinese. The French midfielder is 17. The loan runs for the season, with a purchase option set at 15 million euros.
“Ajax have reached an agreement with Udinese and Abdoulaye Camara over the loan of the 17-year-old midfielder. The loan deal will run for one season and includes a purchase option for Ajax. Camara’s move remains subject to the completion of a number of formalities,” the Dutch club said.

Montpellier, then Italy, now Amsterdam
Camara comes from France’s 2008 age group, a crop only now pushing out of academy football. He is a France Under-19 international. He left Montpellier, his boyhood club, for Udinese in 2025. Eighteen months on, he is changing leagues again.
His route says a lot about how French teenagers travel now. Montpellier have run one of Ligue 1’s better academies for years and keep watching their best prospects go before anyone sees them in the senior side. Italy first. The Netherlands next.
The football reasoning is not hard to follow. Udinese gave him a place to train, not a place to play. The Eredivisie hands minutes to players his age far more readily.
Ajax still speed careers up
Their European results have wobbled from one season to the next, but the reputation holds. The Amsterdam model has not shifted in decades: play them young, sell them expensive. Frenkie de Jong, Matthijs de Ligt and Ryan Gravenberch all took that road out.
Now comes the difficult part. Turning an Under-19 prospect into a starter at a club chasing the title and a European run takes more than talent. Camara has one season to make 15 million look reasonable.
The window closes in days. Udinese will be watching this one closely.
