A one-year bet on a player who led the league once
Seattle agreed terms with Trevon Diggs on a one-year contract, according to multiple reports published earlier today. The 27-year-old cornerback worked out for the Seahawks earlier this week, which is usually the tell in August: teams do not bring free agents through the building at this stage of camp unless a job has opened up.
The job opened because the Terrion Arnold situation stalled. Seattle spent the summer trying to solve its outside corner spot through a trade that never closed, and preseason has reached the point where waiting costs more than signing.

The 2021 season still defines him
Diggs has 20 interceptions in 67 career games. Eleven of them came in 2021 alone. That single season, which led the NFL, accounts for more than half his career total and remains the reason his name still carries weight in a market that otherwise had no takers for eight months.
What followed has been thin. He tore an ACL in September 2023 and had a second knee operation in December 2024. Across the past three seasons he has appeared in 22 games. Dallas drafted him in the second round out of Alabama in 2020 and eventually moved on; Green Bay claimed him off waivers in late December, played him twice for a total of 34 snaps, and released him on January 20. He sat unsigned from that day until this week.
His 63 career passes defensed point at the same profile the Cowboys lived with for six years. Diggs gambles. When the gamble lands he takes the ball away at a rate almost nobody matches. When it misses, the completion behind him tends to be a long one.
What Seattle actually bought
A one-year deal caps the downside. If the knee holds and the ball-hawking returns, Seattle gets a starting corner for a fraction of what one would cost in March. If it does not, the contract expires and nothing carries into 2027.
The Seahawks open the regular season in three weeks. Diggs has not played meaningful defensive snaps since 2024, so the more realistic timeline has him working into a rotation rather than starting Week 1.
