Diaby moves from the pitch to the touchline
Saturdays at 5.15pm. That is where Abou Diaby lands next.
Ligue1+ held its pre-season press conference on Wednesday, and the French league broadcaster used it to confirm a string of new arrivals. Diaby was the biggest name on the list. The former France midfielder won 16 caps and scored once for Les Bleus, built his career at Auxerre, Arsenal and Marseille, then called it a day in 2017 after years of fighting his own body.

Micoud, Mexes and Capelle round out the bench
Diaby is not coming alone. Ligue1+ also confirmed Johan Micoud, Philippe Mexes and Pierrick Capelle. Mexes draws Sunday night duty.
The channel is beefing up its editorial side too. Nicolas Vilas, Anne-Sophie Hamel and Julie Yalap join the broadcast line-up.
Two slots locked, the rest still open
The broadcaster is picking its faces with days to spare before the season starts. The names chosen span several generations of players who came through the French league or passed through it, from midfield to centre-back.
Diaby takes Saturday at 5.15pm. Mexes gets Sunday night. Nobody at the press conference said what happens to the rest of the week.
