Verbal agreement worth more than 50 million
Strasbourg have landed their big summer sale. Racing and AC Milan have reached a verbal agreement over the transfer of Diego Moreira, with the paperwork now being prepared. The deal is expected to top 50 million euros, with a sell-on clause included in Strasbourg’s favour.
That fee puts the 22-year-old Belgium winger well clear of anything Strasbourg have banked this season so far, including the 40 million received for Valentin Barco and the 25 million tied to Emmanuel Emegha’s exit.
For a club that was still in Ligue 2 a few years ago, the financial rise has been on another level.

Leipzig had a deal with the player. It counted for nothing
This was never a done deal. Moreira had offers from Germany and the UK, and an agreement had even been struck between the player and RB Leipzig.
In the end, it was the player’s own choice that swung the move. Diego Moreira picked AC Milan, which made negotiations between the two clubs far smoother and allowed the Rossoneri to leapfrog the competition.
In Milan, his profile has plenty of admirers both upstairs and on the touchline. He can cover the entire left flank or tuck inside behind the striker, along with his creativity and his ability to drive past opponents with the ball at his feet.

Moreira’s exit is part of a frankly bonkers summer at Racing. Eleven players have come in, including Diogo Sousa and Jacobo Ortega for 10 million each, Fabio Balde for 7 million, and Giovanni Reyna. Eight have left. And the dugout has changed hands too, with Hugo Oliveira replacing Gary O’Neil.
Signed in 2024 after spells with Benfica, Chelsea and Lyon, Moreira leaves behind 5 goals and 9 assists in 42 matches in Strasbourg colours. He has also won four caps for Belgium. Strasbourg will cash in, but they now have less than two weeks to rebuild that left side of the pitch.
