A 32 million deal, add-ons included
Borussia Dortmund confirmed on Monday that Giannis Konstantelias has joined the club. The 23-year-old Greek attacking midfielder leaves PAOK Thessaloniki for 26 million euros, with a further 6 million in add-ons possible.
The German club said the move is effective immediately. Konstantelias has signed a contract through June 30, 2031, a full five years. So this is not just a stopgap signing for the current campaign. Dortmund have tied down a player they intend to develop themselves.
The fee puts the deal among the biggest Dortmund have completed in this summer window.

PAOK fans surrounded the stadium. It changed nothing
In Greece, the exit went down badly. Once they were told their player was being sold, PAOK fans surrounded their stadium to show their anger and try to force a rethink. It made no difference.
The reaction says plenty about Konstantelias’s standing in Thessaloniki. For a top-flight Greek club to cash in on a homegrown player at that kind of price is a major event, and PAOK have lost one of the main faces of their sporting project.
Dortmund, for their part, are sticking to a formula they have used for years: spot them early, pay up for a young talent, then bank on the upside later. Konstantelias fits that model perfectly.
A bet on his ceiling
The question now is minutes. The attacking midfielder arrives in an area that is still crowded at Signal Iduna Park, and he will have to impress quickly if he wants to avoid falling down the pecking order.
His deal through 2031 gives him time. The fee paid does not.
