The player has made the call
Celtic have learned that Niko Sigur wants to join them, according to the Daily Record. The 22-year-old midfielder has told Hajduk Split he would like to move to Scotland this summer, and Record Sport report that Celtic are set to open talks with the Croatian club.
A deal would take a significant seven-figure sum. Hajduk have no financial reason to sell cheaply, and a player publicly signalling a preferred destination rarely strengthens his club’s negotiating hand or weakens it enough to matter.
What has changed is Celtic’s capacity to pay. Arne Engels left for West Ham United on Saturday for a reported €25.75 million, around £22m, and that money landed with two weeks of the window still to run.

Replacing what left
Engels arrived in Glasgow in 2024 and became a regular in central midfield before this weekend’s exit. Selling him at that price gives Celtic a rare position for a Scottish Premiership club: a genuine transfer budget in mid-August, at exactly the point when selling clubs across Europe start to soften.
Sigur has been a first-team fixture at Hajduk since breaking through, and he is versatile enough to cover more than one role in midfield, which is part of the appeal for a squad that has to manage domestic fixtures alongside European nights.
Hajduk have form for selling to bigger markets rather than holding players who want out. Whether they hold their valuation this time is the part Celtic cannot control.
Two weeks left
Celtic have not lodged a formal bid. Talks are described as imminent rather than under way, and the gap between the two positions is unknown.
The window closes on 1 September. Celtic have the cash, the player has stated his preference, and Hajduk have to decide what a willing departure is worth.
