Home at last
Von Miller posted a picture of himself in a Cowboys uniform. The caption read “Hereee Weee Gooo @dallascowboys LFG!!!” That was the confirmation, a few hours before Dallas made the signing official overnight.
ESPN had the deal first. The Cowboys announced it later and kept the terms to themselves. Miller is 37. This will be his 15th NFL season, and his first played in the state where he grew up and where he spent his college years at Texas A&M.
He hit free agency in March after a single season with Washington. Dallas becomes his third team in three years.

What Dallas is actually buying
The numbers still carry weight. Miller sits on 138.5 career sacks, more than any other active player, and tied for ninth in league history. He has reached six sacks in all but two of his seasons. Eight All-Pro honors sit on the résumé, along with two Super Bowl rings and the Super Bowl 50 MVP award.
The rest of the ledger, across 203 games and 164 starts: 607 tackles, 271 quarterback hits, 177 tackles for loss, 27 forced fumbles, nine fumble recoveries, two interceptions. Denver had eleven seasons of it between 2011 and 2021. The Rams took the back half of that final year, Buffalo got three, Washington got one.
The caveat is the calendar. Miller has not made a Pro Bowl since 2019, and has not earned All-Pro recognition since then either. Dallas is paying for the player he is now, not the one who wrecked Super Bowl 50.
A pass rush short on bodies
The Cowboys finished tied for 22nd in the league in sacks last season with 35. That figure followed the decision to send Micah Parsons to Green Bay last August, a trade that stripped the defense of its most disruptive player and never got properly answered.
Dallas has missed the playoffs two years running. Signing a 37-year-old edge rusher does not fix that on its own, and nobody inside the building is pretending it does. What it buys is a rotation piece who still knows how to turn a corner and close, on a contract short enough to walk away from.
