Slovan Bratislava vs Celje: two very different routes to the same play-off tie 
Slovan Bratislava have come through their first two qualifying rounds without losing a match. Celje needed a penalty shootout and a turnaround to get here.
That contrast is the big story heading into this first leg. Both clubs are chasing a place in the Champions League league phase, with the Europa League safety net waiting for the loser.
The UEFA numbers back that up: 36,000 for the Slovak champions, 23,000 for the Slovenian champions. It is not a chasm, but the pecking order is pretty clear.
Kick-off is on Wednesday, 19 August at 21:00 CET in Bratislava. The return leg is set for 26 August in Celje.
The market sees it the same way, though without getting carried away: 54% implied for Slovan, 25% for the draw, 21% for Celje. A quarter chance of a stalemate is not something to brush aside.
Tactically, the key question is whether the Slovenians can survive the first half hour. Celje have conceded first in their last two ties and have had to chase both of them.
Slovan Bratislava: four European games, only one goal conceded in the last round 
Slovan began their run in the second qualifying round against Georgian side Iberia Tbilisi. They won 0-2 away, then drew 1-1 at home for a 3-1 aggregate victory.
The third round underlined Slovan’s steel against Swedish side Mjallby. They won 1-2 in Sweden, then followed up with a 2-0 home win for a 4-1 aggregate, never really in danger.
Their domestic form has followed the same line. Two wins to start the title defence, 0-4 at Banska Bystrica and 3-0 against Podbrezova, with Ruzomberok visiting last weekend.
There is a problem up front, though. Nino Marcelli, 21, who scored 7 goals and laid on 6 assists in the league last season, is unavailable.
Sporar, with 12 goals and 6 assists, is also out and his return for this first leg is far from certain. The attacking outlet Tigran Barseghyan, who posted 10 goals and 6 assists, did return to the group for the second leg of the third round.
The in-form man is Suleiman Camara. The winger scored home and away against Mjallby, making him Slovan’s main threat out wide.

Celje: a longer road and two early exits to absorb 
Celje’s entry into the competition was anything but smooth. Against Egnatia Rrogozhine, the Slovenians drew 3-3 in the first leg and then 2-2 after extra time in the return, before scrapping through 4-1 on penalties.
The third round followed the same rescue-act script. Beaten 2-1 away to Ararat-Armenia, the Counts turned the tie around at home with a clean 2-0 win for a 3-2 aggregate success.
Their league form does not exactly scream momentum either. One win and two draws from their first three matches, including a trip to Nafta 1903 last Saturday.
The 2026 summer window has done damage in midfield. Iosifov has gone to Sporting Gijon and Nieto to Castellon, two departures that cut straight into the creative core.
Kvesic remains the club’s best hand. The midfielder struck two doubles in the second round, although he has not scored since then in the third.
Up front, Kucys, who scored 7 league goals last season, and playmaker Seslar, with 9 goals and 5 assists, will both be available. Last week, though, it was substitutes Verbic and Dukuly who made the difference, which says plenty about a starting XI that is still not fully settled.

Slovan have scored 7 goals in four qualifying matches and have never trailed across the whole run. Celje have conceded in all four of their European games this summer.
At home, the Slovaks have dealt with Iberia Tbilisi and Mjallby by leaning on Camara and the return of Barseghyan. Celje arrive without their two main creative outlets from the summer and with a side that still leans too heavily on its bench.
The draw at 25% is the real danger in this bet, but the gap in quality and the home setting tip it. Back Slovan Bratislava to win.
