NEC Nijmegen vs Bodø/Glimt – Free Champions League Prediction – August 19, 2026

NEC Nijmegen vs Bodø/Glimt: two ties won in extra time Champions League

The two clubs meeting on Wednesday came through the previous round in the same way: extra time, right to the wire. That is the first thing they have in common in a fixture that has never happened before.

NEC knocked out Olympiacos after a 0-0 draw in Greece, then a 2-1 win after extra time at the Goffertstadion. Emre Mor scored the winner after the Greek side were reduced to 10 men in the 80th minute.

Bodø/Glimt got rid of Union Saint-Gilloise in even stranger circumstances. The winner came from a clearance that struck Andreas Helmersen in the face before rolling into the net.

The difference between the sides is experience at this level. The Norwegian club has reached the knockout stage of a European competition five years running, which very few clubs can say.

NEC, by contrast, has never played in the main stage of the Champions League. The Nijmegen side will lean on seasoned heads like Dušan Tadić and Emre Mor to narrow that gap.

The first leg takes place on Wednesday 19 August at 21:00 at the Goffertstadion, with the return on 25 August in Norway. Statistical models give the Dutch side a narrow edge in this first meeting, with a 41% chance of victory compared with 33% for Bodø/Glimt.

In other words, the bookmakers and the projections cannot really split these two. That uncertainty is itself a clue to what kind of night this could be.

NEC Nijmegen: a home upset that changed the club’s status NEC Nijmegen

Knocking out Olympiacos, a club used to European battles, is the standout result in NEC’s recent history. The manner mattered just as much as the scoreline.

Coming back from the Piraeus with a 0-0 already demanded a disciplined defensive plan. Dick Schreuder’s side stuck to it and did not concede over the 90 minutes of the first leg.

At home, they used the opposition red card in the 80th minute instead of sitting back and hoping for the best. Emre Mor turned that numbers advantage into the deciding goal in extra time.

Dušan Tadić brings a level of game reading that few Dutch teams outside the top three can match. His presence in the final third changes how opponents have to manage NEC’s good spells.

The Goffertstadion is suddenly a real asset in this first leg. The club has already shown there that it can bring down a team that looks stronger on paper.

The danger is the same as against the Greeks: starting too cautiously and giving the initiative to an opponent who can strike quickly.

Bodø/Glimt: the strongest European record in the tie Bodø/Glimt

Last season in the Champions League, Bodø/Glimt beat Manchester City, Atletico Madrid and Inter twice before going out to Sporting CP in the round of 16. Those results were no fluke.

The Norwegian club has built a method: a highly drilled collective shape, relentless intensity and the knack for punishing teams that leave space. It has worked against opponents with far bigger budgets.

The flip side is that Bodø/Glimt now arrive as favourites, which is not where they usually do their best work. Their biggest runs have been built as the underdog.

Their win over Union Saint-Gilloise also needed a slice of luck, with that clearance deflecting off Andreas Helmersen in extra time. It was far from a polished display.

Another warning sign: the club lost its domestic title last season, finished above by Viking, who claimed their first Norwegian crown in 34 years. Their grip at home is not what it was.

Still, in an away first leg, the European experience built over the past five years is a real edge. Bodø/Glimt know exactly what an early goal against can do to a tie.

Champions League prediction NEC Nijmegen vs Bodø/Glimt

Our prediction: both teams to score

Bodø/Glimt found the net against Manchester City, Atletico Madrid and Inter last season, including away from home. The Norwegian side does not change its attacking approach depending on venue.

On the other side, NEC have just scored twice against Olympiacos at the Goffertstadion and have Tadić and Emre Mor, players who can create a chance out of nothing.

The projections, with only an eight-point gap between the teams, point to an open game where both sides will have to take risks before a tricky trip to Norway. Both teams to score.

First, a word on our free tips

  • What we publish on mathodds is analysis, nothing more. We share an opinion, a read on the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport is what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a goal from nowhere… and the script changes completely.
  • Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when something looks obvious, it never really is. And yes, that means you can lose. In fact, at some point, you will.
  • The smart move is to keep it sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Do not touch money you need to live on. And above all: do not chase losses, because that rarely ends well.
  • A bet should stay a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking over your day, winds you up or puts you under pressure, take a break. And if you need to, speak to a specialist support service. That is what it is there for.
  • At the end of the day, the responsibility is yours. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, even with the best analysis in the world.
  • Essential reminder: betting is forbidden to minors and must comply with the law in your country. Gambling can spiral fast (money lost, family tension, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.

No obligation on our part

Our tips are not a contract. They carry no legal force. In plain English: you cannot rely on them to claim anything if a bet loses.

Information changes

A tip is always based on what we know at the time it is written. But between then and now, a team sheet changes (like NEC Nijmegen’s, for example), a player gets injured, the weather turns… and the analysis can quickly be out of date. We cannot be held responsible for that.

Your role

Before you bet, simply check that betting is legal where you live. If it is not, that is your responsibility, not ours.

Responsible gambling first

We cannot say it often enough: gamble in moderation. If you struggle to keep control, do not wait to get help. We cannot be responsible for compulsive or excessive use of the information published on the site.
