Eels vs Cowboys: Parramatta are not done yet
This Sunday afternoon serves up a hard one to call between two sides stuck near the bottom of the ladder: the Parramatta Eels, 15th, host the North Queensland Cowboys, 13th.
Neither club is thinking about finals any more, but there is still plenty on the line. The home side want to back up the signs of progress they have shown under half-back Mitch Moses, while the visitors are mired in a rotten run that is piling serious pressure on the coaching staff.
For Parramatta, a win would all but shut the door on the danger zone and the wooden spoon talk.
Scrappy Eels despite a brutal schedule
Parramatta have just come through a punishing month against heavyweights like Penrith, Brisbane and Melbourne. It has been a brutal stretch, but Jason Ryles’s men have shown plenty of fight and a fair bit of backbone.
In their last outing against the Storm, a 16-10 defeat, the Eels were in it right to the final whistle. They were loose at times with the ball and gave away too many penalties, but they still created a handful of real chances and carried real punch in attack.
That sort of bite against the competition leaders shows this group is still playing for their young coach.
Try it for $0.99.
Pressure is piling on the Cowboys
It is all a bit grim for the Cowboys. Last week’s loss to the Sharks has pretty much ended their season, leaving them too far back to make a genuine run at the Top 8.
Given the quality in this squad, those flat performances leave Todd Payten in an increasingly awkward spot in the hot seat. They have struggled to set the pace and fall apart whenever conditions turn messy, with consistency a major issue for the Queensland outfit.
Unless they find some pride in the closing rounds, the crisis could drag on for a club that started the year with bigger ideas.
A tight bottom-half scrap
On paper, the Cowboys have enough class to hurt anyone. On the field, though, Parramatta have been the better unit and the more desperate side over the past few weeks.
Mitch Moses’s return to form has given the Eels real direction, and at home they can be a nuisance for anybody if they bring the right level of commitment.
NRL Pick Eels vs Cowboys
Parramatta Eels to win or lose by less than 5.5 points
The Eels have been full of effort in recent weeks and have put up a serious fight against NRL heavyweights. The Cowboys, by contrast, look short on confidence and are struggling to build any rhythm.
At home, with the crowd behind them, Parramatta have enough going for them to go toe to toe with North Queensland. The +5.5 handicap in favour of the Eels looks a strong bit of cover in what should be a tight one.
in your pocket.

First, a word on our picks
- What we publish on mathodds is analysis, nothing more. We are sharing an opinion, a read on the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport is what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a try out of nowhere… and the script changes completely.
- Let us be clear: there is no risk-free bet. Even when something looks nailed on, nothing truly is. And yes, that means you can lose. In fact, at some point, you will.
- The best approach is to stay sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Do not touch money you need for everyday life. And above all, do not chase losses. That usually ends badly.
- A bet should stay a game, not a job or a source of income. If you feel it is taking up too much space in your life, if it is bothering you or putting you under pressure, take a break. And if needed, speak to a specialist service. That is what it is there for.
- In the end, the responsibility is yours. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, even with the best analysis in the world.
- Essential reminder: betting is forbidden for minors and must comply with the law in your country. Gambling can spiral fast, bringing money problems, family strain and addiction. Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.
No commitment from us
Our picks are not a contract. They have no legal force. Put simply: you cannot rely on them to demand anything if a bet loses.
Information can change
A pick is always based on what we know at the time it is written. But a team sheet can change in the meantime, a player can get injured, the weather can turn… and the analysis can quickly be out of date. We cannot be held responsible for that.
Your responsibility
Before you bet, check that betting is legal where you are. If it is not, that is your responsibility, not ours.
Responsible gambling comes first
We cannot say it enough: bet in moderation. If you are struggling to stay in control, get help without delay. We cannot accept responsibility for compulsive or excessive use of the information published on the site.
Legal age
mathodds content is aimed at adults only. By browsing here, you confirm that you are old enough by law to place a bet.
