Football: Roma make their move for Rodrigo Mora

Roma go on the attack

AS Roma are hunting for a creator to spark their attack, and they have put Rodrigo Mora at the top of the list. The Portuguese playmaker is only 19 and has already been billed as a real talent at FC Porto, where he came through the academy. According to Sky Italia, Rome’s hierarchy lodged an initial bid on Wednesday, a loan fee of 5 million euros with a purchase option set at 45 million.

Porto hold firm

The Dragons are in no mood to give their gem away on the cheap. Porto want 50 million euros to let their attacking midfielder go. The gap with the Italian offer is small, but it is there. Roma want this done quickly. They are wary of rivals, with Galatasaray also keeping tabs on the situation. If talks drag on, the Italian club will look elsewhere. Time is not on the Giallorossi’s side.

A player already in demand

Rodrigo Mora is no stranger to the big clubs. PSG tracked him for a long time before moving on. It is easy to see why he appeals: tidy on the ball, sharp vision, the ability to break lines between midfield and attack. In Rome, he would add creativity to a forward line crying out for invention. Porto, though, still need convincing to soften their stance. Nothing is done yet. Roma, at least, have made the first move.
