Xabi Alonso pushes for Zubimendi
Chelsea want another body in midfield, and the name at the top of the list is Martin Zubimendi. According to Estadio Deportivo, Xabi Alonso rates the Spaniard highly and would love him to add steel to the middle of the park. Trouble is, this one has already walked into a wall.
Arsenal have no intention of selling. The Gunners paid 75 million euros a year ago to prise the former Real Sociedad man away, and with his deal running to 2030, he is treated as untouchable.
Try it for $0.99.
Pressure builds in London
The looming arrival of Bruno Guimaraes has only stoked the chatter. Throw in Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard and the fight for midfield minutes at Arsenal turns fierce. That could shift things for Zubimendi, whose game time may not come as easily.
Even so, Arsenal’s board insist they are delighted with what he has given them. Barely a year after paying up, they are not cracking the door open, least of all for a title rival.
A London standoff
Arsenal’s message could not be blunter. For now, Chelsea are left watching from across town. Windows can flip in a day, sure, but Xabi Alonso will need far more than a flicker of interest to make his neighbours flinch. So far the door has not even creaked.
