Hirving Lozano nears a loan move to the LA Galaxy from San Diego FC

Football: LA Galaxy move to sign Hirving Lozano on loan

Galaxy chase a marquee winger

The LA Galaxy are finalizing a loan deal for Mexico winger Hirving “Chucky” Lozano, pulling him from MLS rival San Diego FC, multiple outlets reported Thursday. The Athletic says Lozano arrives as a designated player, with San Diego covering part of his salary.

Lozano, 31, has spent the season on the outside in San Diego. He owns zero MLS appearances this year, a sharp drop from his 2025 debut campaign when he racked up nine goals and 10 assists across 27 matches and earned All-Star honors. He tacked on two goals and an assist in four playoff games.

A fallout months in the making

San Diego parked him on the bench despite $9.33 million in guaranteed money this season, the fourth-largest figure in the league behind Lionel Messi, Son Heung-min and Rodrigo De Paul, per The Athletic. Sporting director Tyler Heaps said back in January that Lozano was not part of the team’s plans, and later reports pointed to a locker-room altercation late last season.

For the Galaxy the math reads clean. They land a proven attacker at a discount and leave a rival paying part of the bill.
