MLB: Burleson blasts 3 homers as Cardinals bury Yankees

Burleson turns Yankee Stadium into his personal launch pad

Three swings, three two-run homers. Alec Burleson took over Monday night in the Bronx, and he did it in the loudest way available. The Cardinals first baseman drove one into the right-field seats off Cam Schlittler just three batters into the game, then found the short porch again off left-hander Tim Hill in the fourth to push St. Louis in front 6-0.

That lead did not last. The Yankees clawed all of it back and edged ahead, turning a quiet visitors’ night into a slugfest. Burleson kept answering.

A seven-run eighth flips the game

St. Louis erupted for seven runs in the eighth inning. Burleson capped the rally with his third homer, a two-run shot off Angel Chivilli that carried into the second deck and made it 13-7. Jordan Walker added a two-run single as the Cardinals scored five or more runs for the first time in eight games.

The scoreboard read 13-7 in front of 38,151 fans who came to watch the Yankees and left talking about a visiting first baseman.

Rare company for the St. Louis slugger

Burleson became the first Cardinals hitter with a three-homer game since Ivan Herrera did it against the Angels on April 2, 2025. Six runs batted in, a six-run lead surrendered and then reclaimed, and a road win St. Louis needed as it tries to climb back toward the race.
