Miami stopped in its tracks in Columbus
Inter Miami had won six straight. That run ended last night in Ohio, as they were held to a 2-2 draw by the Columbus Crew. Brais Mendez struck late to level it in his very first game in new colours.
Luis Suarez and youngster Noah Allen, a product of the academy, had twice put the Floridians in front. Columbus hit back each time, before landing the killer blow in the closing stages.

Messi eased back in
Lionel Messi was back in the squad, but only on the bench. The Argentine was given a breather two weeks after his country’s defeat in the World Cup final, won by Spain on 19 July. His staff opted to hold him back.

This draw is a reminder that MLS gives you no room to switch off. Columbus, a former champion, showed plenty of grit. Miami will need to find their rhythm again, with or without their number 10 in the starting XI.
