Washington takes control in Connecticut
The Washington Mystics beat the Connecticut Sun 92-84 on Tuesday night. Sonia Citron led the way with 22 points. Kiki Iriafen backed her with a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds. Washington seized control in the second half and never let the Sun draw level down the stretch.
The two young forwards ran the Washington offense when it mattered. Citron scored from the perimeter and the free-throw line, while Iriafen went to work in the paint on both ends of the floor.

Connecticut fights but falls short
Connecticut stayed within range for much of the night but could not string together the stops it needed. The Sun trimmed the margin in the fourth quarter, then watched Washington answer each push with a bucket of its own. The eight-point final reflected a game Washington led when it counted.
What it means
The result pushes Washington forward in a crowded Eastern Conference picture. Citron and Iriafen keep building the chemistry a young roster leans on as the second half of the season heats up.
