Seattle breaks a five-year wall

Seattle beat the Dodgers 7-6 in Los Angeles last night to open a three-game series. The win snapped a 12-game losing streak against the franchise, a run that dated back to 2021.

The Mariners hit five homers, their best total of the season. Cal Raleigh, Julio Rodriguez and Rob Refsnyder all went deep. Dominic Canzone delivered the two biggest blows.

Canzone comes up clutch late

Canzone first tied the game with a homer in the sixth inning. He struck again in the eighth, a two-run blast off left-hander Alex Vesia, to put his side ahead 7-5.

Luis Castillo gave up five runs and 11 hits in five innings. Jose Ferrer threw a scoreless inning and got the win. Andres Munoz picked up his 19th save despite allowing a run in the ninth.

Ohtani did all he could

Shohei Ohtani kicked things off with a homer on the first pitch, his 10th leadoff blast of the season. He later added an RBI single and then a double in the ninth to pull Los Angeles within one. Max Muncy also homered. Justin Wrobleski paid for his first home start since the All-Star break, serving up four home runs, a personal worst.
