Tim Tszyu wins by unanimous decision over Errol Spence Jr in Sydney

Boxing: Tszyu outpoints Spence in Sydney

Tszyu closes the show in Sydney

Tim Tszyu did his talking over 12 rounds on Sunday, boxing his way to a unanimous decision over Errol Spence Jr at Afterpay Arena in Sydney. The judges scored it 118-110, 117-111 and 117-111, a clear and unarguable verdict for the Australian.

Tszyu moved to 28-3 and reclaimed the momentum he had lost during a rough stretch. Fighting in front of a home crowd, he set the pace from the first bell and refused to hand Spence the openings the American needed.

The end of the road for Spence

This was Spence’s first fight since Terence Crawford dismantled him in 2023, a defeat that cost him his welterweight belts and, as it turned out, much of his edge. He dropped to 28-2 and confirmed afterward that his career is finished.

Two years away from competition is a long time for any fighter, and the pressure-heavy Spence who once unified the welterweight division never quite reappeared. Tszyu read the timing, banked the early rounds and never let the fight slip out of his control.

Where Tszyu heads next

The result drops Tszyu back into the middle of the 154-pound picture, a division loaded with names and mandatory challengers. A win over a fighter of Spence’s pedigree, even a faded one, is the sort of line that rebuilds a resume quickly.
