Dolphins vs Sharks: a clash that could carry serious weight NRL

Saturday’s action rolls on at Kayo Stadium with one of the standout fixtures of round 19.

The Dolphins and the Sharks are both genuine finals contenders, and a win here would take either side a step closer to the Top 4. On paper, there is very little between these two squads, which points to a fierce, tightly fought contest.

In games like this, the fine margins usually decide it.

The Dolphins are still searching for the right formula Dolphins

The narrow loss in Newcastle proved one thing: the Dolphins are still a nightmare to play against.

Even without several key men, they were within touching distance of victory before finally cracking late on. It was a gutsy display that underlined the strength of this group, but it also showed what they are missing right now.

The absence of Isaiya Katoa still hurts.

The young half has become the real conductor of this side over the past few months. His ability to slow the game down or speed it up, find the right kicking zones and make the big calls in key moments is exactly what the Dolphins are missing.

That said, the attacking threat is still there.

Herbie Farnworth remains one of the most dangerous centres in the competition, Jamayne Isaako keeps bringing his finishing touch on the wing and Jeremy Marshall-King is vital in giving the attack tempo around the ruck.

Kodi Nikorima will also have a big role to play. With Katoa out, a lot of the creative burden falls on his shoulders.

At home, the Dolphins have more than enough to trouble anyone. The big question is whether they can keep control once the pressure starts to bite.

The Sharks are moving with more certainty Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks - Wikipedia

The win on Brisbane’s turf confirmed the Sharks’ good run of form.

After a slightly bumpier patch, Cronulla look to have found a bit more stability in their game. The defence is tighter, they are handling the rough patches better and they still have a seriously strong spine to lean on.

The return of Nicho Hynes changes plenty.

With him in the side, the Sharks look far more controlled in how they set things up, while Braydon Trindall can play a role that suits him much better. Together, they give Cronulla a lot more variety.

The pack remains one of the most feared in the competition.

Cameron McInnes is still producing a huge season in a leadership role, while Addin Fonua-Blake continues to bring the power from the first collision. If Briton Nikora is also able to back up after State of Origin, the visitors will have a sizeable physical edge.

There is, though, one big unknown that comes with this stretch of the calendar.

The weeks after State of Origin often throw up surprises, with minutes managed carefully, players carrying fatigue and late changes always a possibility. That naturally calls for caution.

Dolphins to win

This looks extremely tight, but the Dolphins still have a few important cards to play.

Even without Isaiya Katoa, they remain very strong at home and keep bringing a nasty edge in front of their own fans.

The Sharks arrive in good spirits after beating the Broncos, but the post-Origin hangover can still complicate preparation, especially for several key players.

In a game that should be decided by only a handful of possessions, home advantage could just swing it Redcliffe’s way.

First things first, a word on our predictions

  • What we publish on mathodds is analysis, nothing more. We share an opinion, a read on the current picture, but never a guarantee. Sport is what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a goal from nowhere… and the script changes completely.
  • Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks obvious, it really isn’t. And yes, that means you can lose. In fact, at some point, you will.
  • The smart move is to stay sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never touch money you need for everyday life. And above all: don’t chase your losses, because that rarely ends well.
  • A bet should stay a game, not a job or a source of income. If you feel it is taking up too much space in your life, if it’s annoying you or putting you under pressure, take a break. And if needed, speak to a specialist support group. That’s what it’s there for.
  • At the end of the day, the responsibility is yours. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, even with the best analysis in the world.
  • Important reminder: betting is illegal for minors and must follow the law in your country. Gambling can spiral fast, leading to money problems, family tension and addiction. Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.

No commitment from us

Our predictions are not a contract. They have no legal force. Put simply: you cannot use them to claim anything if a bet loses.

Information can change

A prediction is always based on what we know when it is written. But in the meantime, a team sheet changes (like the Dolphins’ one, for example), a player gets injured, the weather turns… and the analysis can quickly go out of date. We cannot be held responsible for that.

Your responsibility

Before you bet, just check that gambling is legal where you are. If it isn’t, that’s your responsibility, not ours.

Responsible gambling comes first

We cannot say it enough: gamble in moderation. If you are struggling to stay in control, get help without delay. We cannot be responsible for compulsive or excessive use of the information published on the site.

Legal age
