Cowboys vs Dolphins: a Queensland clash with a bit of bite
A trimmed-down Super Saturday card does nothing to dull the appeal of this one. If anything, it sharpens it.
At Townsville, two ambitious sides go head to head, but they arrive on very different runs. North Queensland are still hunting for consistency, while the Dolphins keep climbing the table and look more confident by the week.
In a brutally tight conference, every win starts to matter a lot.
The Cowboys remain maddeningly inconsistent
A week after their impressive Magic Round win, the Cowboys were expected to back it up against the Raiders.
Instead, the trip to Canberra turned ugly fast.
For a spell, North Queensland were in the contest. But the longer it went on, the clearer the gap between the two sides became.
With just 49 % possession, the Cowboys were chasing the game from start to finish.
In attack, it was not all doom and gloom. They still broke the line four times and managed a decent 8,9 metres per carry.
The real issue was the other side of the ball.
The Cowboys have enough talent to beat almost anyone when they are on song. The problem is they do not get near that level often enough.
The Dolphins keep moving up
While the Cowboys are still trying to find themselves, the Dolphins keep getting the job done, quietly but steadily.
Their 30-22 win in Canberra in Round 12 was probably one of their most complete performances of the season.
Against a Raiders side that is never easy to handle at home, Kristian Woolf’s men delivered across almost every area of the game.
They controlled possession, posted a better completion rate, made more ground with each carry and created the better chances.
But it was their defensive effort that really stood out.
Just 23 missed tackles across the full game, plus a relentless ability to slow down the opposition’s attack. It was another sign of the progress they have made over the past few weeks.
The bye comes at the perfect time too.
The Dolphins arrive in Townsville on a four-game winning streak and are averaging more than 33 points a match during that run.
Isaiya Katoa is growing into the role at halfback, while Jeremy Marshall-King’s return has added more rhythm and invention around the ruck.
This side is starting to look a genuine Top 8 contender.
A clash of styles in Townsville
This is really a meeting of two teams with very different profiles.
The Cowboys still pack a serious attacking punch at home. They have scored 106 points in their last three games in Townsville and can do real damage when Jason Taumalolo is setting the physical tone.
The Dolphins, though, arrive with more balance and a level of confidence that keeps rising.
The visitors will need to stay switched on against North Queensland’s attacking threats, but recent games have shown a team that is far more disciplined and far better organised.
If the Cowboys repeat the defensive lapses they showed against Canberra, they could quickly find themselves under the cosh against one of the hottest attacks around.
Try it for $0.99.
NRL Prediction Cowboys vs Dolphins
Jack Bostock to score a try
The Dolphins’ attack has been humming for weeks and Jack Bostock keeps getting quality ball on the edge.
Against a Cowboys defence that has looked vulnerable lately, the chances should be there for Brisbane’s outside men.
In what should be an open game, Bostock has every chance of crossing.

First, a word on our predictions
- What we publish on mathodds is analysis, nothing more. We share an opinion, a read on the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport is still sport: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a goal from nowhere… and the whole script changes.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when something looks nailed on, it is never quite that simple. And yes, that means you can lose. In fact, sooner or later, you will.
- The smartest move is to keep it sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Do not touch money you need to live on. And above all, do not chase your losses. That rarely ends well.
- A bet should stay a bit of fun, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your life, if it winds you up or puts you under pressure, take a break. And if needed, speak to a specialist service. That is what it is there for.
- In the end, the responsibility is yours. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never go away, even with the sharpest analysis in the world.
- Important reminder: betting is not allowed for minors and must follow the law in your country. Gambling can spiral fast (money losses, family tension, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.
No commitment from us
Our predictions are not a contract. They carry no legal weight. Put simply: you cannot use them to demand anything if a bet loses.
Information can change
A prediction is always based on what we know when it is written. But in the meantime, a team sheet changes (like the Dolphins’ one, for example), a player gets injured, the weather turns… and the analysis can quickly be out of date. We cannot be held responsible for that.
Your responsibility
Before betting, check that it is legal where you are. If it is not, that is your problem, not ours.
Responsible gambling first
We cannot say it enough: keep it under control. If you are struggling to do that, do not wait to get help. We cannot be responsible for compulsive or excessive use of the information published on the site.
Legal age
