Alexandre Muller – Stefanos Tsitsipas: a first-round tie trickier than it looks File:Roland-Garros logo.svg - Wikipedia

Stefanos Tsitsipas opens his Roland-Garros campaign against Frenchman Alexandre Muller in a match that could get awkward fast for the Greek. A former finalist in Paris, Tsitsipas is nowhere near his sharpest right now and comes in with plenty of questions hanging over his level. Muller is on a rough run himself, but he will fancy his chances of leaning on the crowd and making life difficult for the seed.

Muller banks on the Paris crowd

Alexandre Muller is not exactly arriving in sparkling form either. The Frenchman has been in a grim patch, with a string of straight losses on the main tour and a worrying lack of belief in his game.

Still, clay is the one surface where he can become a real nuisance. Muller likes to build points, defend for ages and break an opponent’s rhythm. Backed by a home crowd, he should also find an extra gear to keep himself in the contest.

The biggest issue is his recent inability to close out the key moments. In plenty of matches this season, Muller has shown decent spells before folding when he has had the chance to swing a set.

Against Tsitsipas, the Frenchman will probably feel he has nothing to lose. And that can free a player up completely in a big Paris stadium.

Tsitsipas still searching for his best level

A few years ago, Stefanos Tsitsipas was one of the obvious front-runners as soon as the clay-court swing began. Not anymore. The Greek is struggling to rediscover the consistency that once defined him, and his recent results are well below his usual standards.

His clay season has not been a total disaster. In Madrid, Tsitsipas produced a few promising patches and reached the last 16, which at least hinted at a pulse. But the early exits have still piled up, and his lack of belief is showing in the big moments.

The odd thing is that clay is still probably his best surface. Tsitsipas still has that heavy forehand, the ability to whip the ball cross-court and the movement that helped him shine at Roland-Garros before.

Mentally, though, he can look far less settled than he used to. Once the rallies get tight or the match becomes a scrap, the unforced errors and the frustration tend to come quickly.

Even so, his experience in the big matches gives him a major edge in this first round.

A match that could tighten up

Tsitsipas remains the favourite thanks to his clay-court pedigree and his history of handling the pressure at Roland-Garros. But his current level still leaves the door open.

Muller should feed off the atmosphere, extend the rallies and try to rattle the Greek. If this turns into a mental battle, the Frenchman could absolutely nick at least one set.

Tennis Prediction Alexandre Muller vs Stefanos Tsitsipas

Muller to win at least one set

Tsitsipas has more than enough to get through the opening round, but his season has been far too erratic to trust him to cruise. Alexandre Muller should use the Paris energy to dig in and make this a lot tougher than it first appears. On clay, the Frenchman has enough about him to grab at least one set.

First, a word on our predictions

What we publish on mathodds is analysis, nothing more. We offer an opinion, a read on the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport is what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a goal from nowhere… and the script changes completely.

Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, it really isn’t. And yes, that means you can lose. In fact, sooner or later, you will.

The best approach is to stay sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Do not touch money you need to live. And above all: do not chase your losses, because that rarely ends well.

A bet should stay a bit of fun, not a job or a source of income. If you feel it’s taking up too much space in your day, if it is winding you up or putting you under pressure, take a break. And if needed, speak to a specialist support group. That is what they are there for.

At the end of the day, the responsibility is yours. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis is.

Essential reminder: betting is forbidden to minors and must comply with the law in your country. Gambling can quickly spiral out of control (money losses, family tension, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.

No commitment from us

Our predictions are not a contract. They carry no legal weight. In plain English: you cannot rely on them to demand anything if a bet does not land.

Information changes

A prediction is always based on what we know when it is written. But in the meantime, a team sheet changes, a player gets injured, the weather turns bad… and the analysis can quickly be out of date. We cannot be held responsible for that.

Your role

Before you bet, check that wagering is legal where you are. If it is not, that is your responsibility, not ours.

Responsible gambling first

We cannot say it enough: bet in moderation. If you struggle to keep control, do not wait to seek help. We cannot be responsible for compulsive or excessive use of the information published on the site.

Legal age

mathodds content is for adults only. By using this site, you confirm you are old enough under the law to bet.
