NRL – Cowboys vs Sharks: a response is expected in Townsville 
Friday night kicks off in north Queensland with a tight call between the Cowboys and the Sharks. Two teams stuck in the middle of the table, both still hunting consistency if they want to move up a gear.
The Cowboys are in a rut 
The heavy 38-6 loss to the Sea Eagles exposed flaws that had already been there earlier in the season.
North Queensland were never really in it and drifted out of the contest without much of a fight. Too many errors, too little precision, and no ability to set any kind of tempo.
The big issue is discipline. With a dreadful completion rate, the Cowboys kept putting themselves under pressure. The result: hardly any possession, little control, and a defence left to fend for itself.
And at the back, the problems are just as clear. Missed tackles, easy metres conceded… they spend more time chasing games than dictating them.
At this point, this is no longer a one-off. They need to fix it fast, or the season could start sliding away.
The Sharks need a reply 
The Sharks, meanwhile, come in off a frustrating night against the Roosters.
Ahead at the break, they vanished in the second half. No points, no way to stop the momentum swinging the other way.
The most worrying part was the defence. Too many missed tackles, too much space left out there… a side that lost control at exactly the wrong time.
But the backdrop is different this week. They have had a week off, time to review, tidy things up and reset.
Even in defeat, Cronulla have shown enough in the opening weeks to suggest there is something to work with. The ceiling is there. The challenge is doing it for 80 minutes.
A controlled game?
One team is losing its shape, the other is trying to hit the reset button, so this may be tighter than many expect.
The Cowboys need to steady themselves first. The Sharks, on the other hand, will want to get back on solid ground.
The pace could be broken, the errors watched closely… and the score kept in check.
