Freiburg – Celta Vigo: a first for history at the Europa-Park Stadion
On Thursday night, the Europa-Park Stadion is set to erupt for a completely new Europa League quarter-final first leg. Freiburg host Spain’s Celta Vigo in a European scrap that should have plenty of bite. For Freiburg, it’s a chance to make history. For Celta Vigo, it’s about getting something useful to take back to Galicia.
Freiburg dream of a first trophy
In the German camp, the ambition is huge. Freiburg have been spotless at home in Europe, rattling off an absurd nine straight wins at the Europa-Park Stadion. Even so, they were left stinging last weekend in the Bundesliga, throwing away a two-goal lead before losing to Bayern. A nasty blow. But they’re still miles clear of any domestic trouble.
For their first European quarter-final ever, Freiburg are banking on firepower. The reminder is still fresh: that demolition of Genk, 5-1, in the last round. Freiburg’s forwards love a goal in front of their own fans, and they’ve no intention of letting Celta Vigo set the pace. The mission is plain enough: build a serious lead on Thursday night.
Celta Vigo, the surprise package with teeth
Celta Vigo, for their part, arrive in Germany brimming with belief. After knocking Lyon out in the last round, they followed it up with a classy win over Valencia. Claudio Giráldez has put some steel back into the side, and they’re now sitting sixth in La Liga. In this competition, Celta have a real shot at joining the small club of Spanish sides to have lifted the trophy.
Away from home, Celta are unbeaten in eight matches in all competitions. Against Freiburg’s full-throttle press, they’ll probably have to dig in and stay tight at the back. The plan? Wait for the opening, then nick it on the break. Celta have often had a rough time in Germany, but this version of the team looks built to give Freiburg a proper shake.
Probable line-ups
Freiburg : Atubolu ; Treu, Ginter, Lienhart, Gunter ; Eggestein, Manzambi ; Beste, Suzuki, Grifo ; Matanovic
Celta Vigo : Radu ; Rodriguez, Aidoo, Alonso ; Mingueza, Sotelo, Moriba, Carreira ; Lopez, Swedberg, Iglesias
Football Prediction Freiburg vs Celta Vigo
Both teams to score
This one pits two attacking sides against each other, and neither of them shuts up shop.
Freiburg are a goal machine at home in Europe and should find a way through. But their defence has looked shaky lately, especially in their last league game. Celta, meanwhile, travel well and have the sort of attacking quality that can punish any slip. Expect an open game, with both keepers picking the ball out of the net.

Before anything else, a word on our predictions
- What we publish on Mathodds is analysis, nothing more. We’re giving an opinion, a read on the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport is what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a goal from nowhere… and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there’s no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, it never really is. And yes, that means you can lose. In fact, you will at some point. It’s part of the deal.
- Best thing you can do is keep your head. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Don’t go anywhere near money you need to live on. And above all, don’t chase losses. That usually ends badly.
- A bet should stay a bit of fun, not a job or a way to make money. If it starts taking over your day, winding you up or putting you under pressure, take a break. And if you need to, speak to a specialist support service. That’s what they’re there for.
- At the end of the day, the responsibility is yours. Reading our content means accepting that risk is real, and it isn’t going away, no matter how good the analysis looks.
- Important reminder: betting is banned for minors and must follow the law in your country. Gambling can spiral fast (money lost, family tension, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.
No commitment from us
Our predictions are not a contract. They carry no legal weight. Plainly put: you can’t use them to claim anything if a bet goes wrong.
Information changes
A prediction is always based on what we know when it’s written. But by the time you read it, a team sheet can change, a player can get hurt, the weather can turn bad… and the analysis can be out of date fast. We can’t be held responsible for that.
Your role
Before you bet, check that gambling is legal where you are. If it isn’t, that’s on you, not us.

We can’t say it enough: gamble in moderation. If you’re struggling to keep control, don’t wait to get help. We can’t be responsible for compulsive or excessive use of the information published on the site.
