Brest vs Rennes: the Breton derby of redemption at Francis-Le Blé Logo Ligue 1

This Saturday, Stade Francis-Le Blé hosts a proper scrap between regional neighbours. Brest, 11th, welcome Rennes, 7th, in a Brittany derby that should bite hard. Both sides come back from a useful international break, time to reset after a nasty spell in the league.

Brest are feeling seasick Logo du Stade brestois

Survival is pretty much in the bag and the drop zone is no longer breathing down their neck, but Brest’s form is a worry. Eric Roy’s men have lost two on the bounce, including a grim 3-0 thumping at lowly Auxerre, where they somehow managed to sink despite playing with an extra man!

The European dream is dead and buried for now. At the moment, it’s more pain than pleasure on the west coast. Still, home comforts should help. Brest have turned their ground into a proper fortress, with six wins and five clean sheets in their last seven home games. They’ll need that steel again if they want to steady themselves and kick on.

Rennes, the road specialists Logo du Stade Rennais

Over in the Rennes camp, Franck Haise’s side have also hit the brakes hard. Dumped out of the top six after a loss to Lille and a limp draw with Metz, the Red and Blacks need a response. Oddly enough, though, they’ve been at their best away from Roazhon Park this season.

On their last two trips, they’ve been flat-out cheeky, racking up a brutal 7-0 aggregate scoreline against the hosts. They can sit back when under pressure, then spring forward and nick a game with a slick counter. This lot know when to strike. The job here is simple enough: turn this derby into a fight early, then land the goals needed to make it two wins from two against their Breton rivals this season.

Probable line-ups

Brest: Coudert ; Lala, Chardonnet, Diaz, Guindo ; Chotard, Magnetti ; Castillo, Tousart, Ebimbe ; Ajorque

Rennes: Samba ; Merlin, Brassier, Boudlal, Nagida ; Camara, Rongier, Szymanski ; Nordin, Lepaul, Blas

Football prediction Brest vs Rennes

Both teams to score

This Breton derby pits two sides who badly need a lift — and points — after recent setbacks.

Brest are a tough nut to crack at Francis-Le Blé and will be desperate to erase the shame of that collapse at Auxerre by coming out fast and furious. Rennes, though, travel well and pack a serious punch going forward on the road. In a derby like this, with all the edge that comes with it, both defences could be in for a long night. It’s hard to see either side shutting the other out for 90 minutes.

First, a word on our predictions

  • What we publish on Mathodds is analysis, nothing more. We’re sharing an opinion, a snapshot of the moment, never a guarantee. Sport is still sport: unpredictable. One red card, one injury, one freak goal out of nowhere… and the whole script changes.
  • Let’s be clear: there’s no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when something looks “obvious”, it really isn’t. And yes, that means you can lose. At some point, you will.
  • The smart move is to stay sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Don’t touch money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase losses, because that usually ends badly.
  • A bet should stay a bit of fun, not a job or an income stream. If you feel it’s taking over your day, winding you up or putting you under pressure, take a break. And if needed, speak to a specialist support group. That’s what they’re there for.
  • In the end, it’s on you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and isn’t going away, even with the best analysis in the world.
  • Important reminder: betting is illegal for minors and must follow the laws of your country. Gambling can spiral fast, leading to money problems, family tension and addiction. Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.

No commitment from us

Our predictions are not a contract. They carry no legal weight. Put simply: you can’t use them to demand anything if a bet loses.

Information changes

A prediction is always based on what we know when it’s written. But then a team sheet changes, a player gets injured, the weather turns, and the analysis can be out of date in no time. We can’t be held responsible for that.

Your responsibility

Before you bet, make sure wagering is legal where you are. If it isn’t, that’s your problem, not ours.

Responsible gambling first
