Anaheim Ducks – Toronto Maple Leafs: Is Toronto’s nemesis back on the prowl?
The Maple Leafs arrive in California with their season in tatters to face the Ducks. On paper it’s the perfect mismatch — a West powerhouse against an East whipping boy. Only problem for Anaheim: Toronto has a nasty habit of ruining their nights.
Can the Ducks finally exorcise that hoodoo? Let’s pick apart both sides and hunt down the smartest bet for the evening.
Ducks parked in the playoff waiting room
Their four-game win streak hit a wall called Edmonton (4-2 loss). Hardly a crisis for Joel Quenneville’s men, who sit snugly 4th in the West. With a ten-point cushion and just nine games left, their playoff spot is pretty much in the bank.
At the Honda Center they’re a different animal: 11 wins from their last 14 home games and points in 12 of those. A 65.7% win rate in front of their crowd, a line that scorches (3.51 goals per game, 4th in the NHL). The defence remains a bit leaky though — they still concede 3.34 on average. Injury news is positive: Pavel Mintyukov, Radko Gudas and Jansen Harkins are expected back soon. Troy Terry has skated again, even if he finished -2 against the Oilers.
All the Maple Leafs have left is pride
After a brief bright spot in late February — two solid wins over Boston and the Rangers — Toronto promptly tumbled back down, getting thumped 5-1 by St. Louis. Craig Berube’s side languish in a sorry 14th in the East; the playoff page has been ripped out.
On the road they’ve been shocking: just two wins in their last ten away trips. Only 13 away wins all season, joint worst in the league. Oddly, their attack plays with freedom away from home (2.81 goals per game), but the defence collapses (3.58 goals conceded, dead last in the East). To top it off, the final run will be without rock Chris Tanev and star Auston Matthews, both sidelined for a long spell.
NHL pick Anaheim Ducks vs Toronto Maple Leafs
Pick: Toronto Maple Leafs to avoid defeat or lose by no more than one goal
Look at the table and Anaheim reads like the giant here. They’re humming and desperate to lock up a playoff spot on paper. But history is a thorn: the Ducks have lost their last six meetings with the Maple Leafs and haven’t beaten them in 60 minutes in their last nine clashes. That’s a mental block you can’t ignore.
Another trend pushes this pick hard: at the Honda Center Anaheim rarely blow teams away. In 8 of their last 9 home games they either lost or only nicked a one-goal win. Facing a Leafs side playing with zero pressure and who thrive against that profile, backing Toronto with a +1 cushion at the handicap is the value play on this card.

A quick word on our previews
- What we publish on Mathodds are analyses, nothing else. We share an opinion, a snapshot read of the moment, not a guarantee. Sport is what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a freak goal — the script flips in an instant.
- Let’s be blunt: there’s no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, it rarely is. Yes, that means you can lose. At some point you probably will.
- Be sensible. Stake small, set a budget and stick to it. Don’t touch money you need to live on. And whatever you do, don’t chase losses — it never ends well.
- Betting should be entertainment, not a job or a cash machine. If it starts to take over, annoys you or stresses you out, step away. Get help from a specialist if you need to. That’s what they’re for.
- Ultimately, you’re responsible. Reading our stuff means you accept the risk exists and it won’t disappear, even with the best analysis.
- Essential reminder: betting is banned for minors and must follow your country’s laws. Gambling can spiral (money loss, family tensions, addiction). Need help? Players Info Service: 09 74 75 13 13 (non-surcharged call) https://www.gambleaware.org/.

Info that can change
A prediction is based on what we know when we write it. Between then and puck drop a lineup changes, a player gets injured, weather turns… and the analysis can go out of date. We can’t be held responsible for that.
