Utah Mammoth – Edmonton Oilers: a high-stakes West showdown
The Western rivalry just stepped up. Utah and Edmonton, side-by-side in the table, are set to scrap on the ice. Can the Edmonton Oilers bounce back after two ugly defeats in a row?
That’s the question we’ll answer by tearing into the stats and momentum of this regular-season clash and handing you our best pick.
Utah faltering at home
They’re still one of the West’s top sides, but the Mammoths have been sliding this March. The club hit a nasty slump — four straight defeats, including two gutting overtime losses to Chicago, 3-2 on both occasions. Last week Keller and his crew also folded to Anaheim (4-1) in a brutal back-to-back.
Guenther and his forwards fire at home — a tidy 3.29 goals per game — but it’s at the other end where things fall apart. Vejmelka and the defence concede 2.76 on average. The stat piling the most pressure on Salt Lake City: they haven’t won any of their last five home matches!
Edmonton need to tighten up
The Oilers have been inconsistent. After a free-scoring win over San Jose (5-3), Chris Knoblauch’s men went flat. Edmonton were embarrassed by the team that beat them in last year’s Stanley Cup final, Florida (4-0), then folded to Tampa Bay (5-2). Superstar Leon Draisaitl being out bites hard. Young German forward Samanski is doing his best — he just grabbed his first goal against the Lightning after strong AHL form — but the hole left is huge.
Despite that absence, the Canadian side still averages 3.45 goals per game. The real problem is a leaky defence: Darnell Nurse and his unit cough up 3.44 goals a night. With Los Angeles breathing down their necks in the standings, Alberta’s situation is fragile and a win is essential.
NHL prediction Utah Mammoth vs Edmonton Oilers
Draw or Edmonton Oilers win
This West clash between direct rivals should be tight, but Utah’s home form is seriously worrying. Five straight home games without a regulation win — the hosts are driving with the handbrake on and full of doubt.
Across the ice, Edmonton desperately need points to keep Los Angeles at bay. Despite two recent defeats, the Oilers carry a psychological edge: they haven’t lost to the Salt Lake City franchise since November 2024! Given Utah’s current home struggles and Edmonton’s urgency, backing “X2” (Edmonton to win or draw) is smart cover and the shrewdest play for this fixture.

First, a word on our predictions
- What we publish on Mathodds are analyses, nothing more. We share an opinion, a snapshot of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport stays what it is: unpredictable. A sending-off, an injury, a freak goal… and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there’s no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when something looks “obvious”, it rarely is. And yes — you can lose. At some point, it’s inevitable.
- Best to stay sensible. Stake small, set a budget and stick to it. Don’t touch money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase losses — it rarely ends well.
- Betting should remain a pastime, not a job or a source of income. If it’s taking over your life, annoying you or stressing you out, take a break. If needed, speak to a specialised service. That’s what they’re for.
- Ultimately, responsibility rests with you. Reading our content means you accept the risk exists and that it won’t disappear, even with the best analysis in the world.
- Important reminder: betting is banned for minors and must comply with the law in your country. Gambling can spiral (money losses, family strain, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.
