Real Madrid – Atletico Madrid: the capital will set the Bernabéu alight
Real sit second and they’re chasing leaders Barcelona. Atletico are third. It’s raw, loud and ugly in the best possible way — a derby that always smells of history and bad blood.
Real have no margin for error
No more tinkering for Alvaro Arbeloa’s men. After two nasty stumbles at Osasuna and Getafe a few weeks back, Real flirted with panic in the title race. They’ve answered, though — four straight wins, including a gutsy 2-1 over Manchester City that pushed them into the Champions League quarter-finals against Bayern.
At the Bernabéu they’re a different animal. Revenge is a hunger here. In the reverse fixture their defence was ripped apart by Atletico. With Kylian Mbappé back in the XI, Madrid’s attack looks hungry again — sharp, direct and ready to stick the goals that keep the pressure on Barcelona.
Atletico want to spoil the party
Atletico are breathing easy, nowhere near the relegation panic. Sitting third with a 13-point cushion on Betis, Diego Simeone’s side aren’t in the title fight — they’ve got a tantalising end to the season: a Champions League quarter against Barcelona and the Copa del Rey final on April 18.
They know how to absorb pressure and hit back. And their record at the Bernabéu is ridiculous: Real haven’t won a league derby at home since December 2021. That stat gives Atletico licence to play loose, hit on the counter and nick another scalp at their rival’s stadium.
Likely line-ups
Real Madrid : Lunin ; Alexander-Arnold, Rudiger, Huijsen, Carreras ; Camavinga, Tchouameni, Valverde ; Guler ; Mbappe, Vinicius
Atletico Madrid : Musso ; Molina, Pubill, Hancko, Ruggeri ; Simeone, Llorente, Cardoso, Lookman ; Sorloth, Alvarez
Football prediction Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid
Real Madrid to win
The Bernabéu hoodoo in the league versus Atletico has dragged on for too long for the Whites.
Real must take three points or risk Barcelona pulling away. Arbeloa’s side have found momentum and Mbappé’s return adds clear cutting power up front. Atletico will make it ugly — they always do — but urgency, home backing and attacking quality should be enough for Real to pry open Simeone’s wall and grab this derby.

First: a word about our tips
- What we publish on Mathodds are analyses and opinions, not guarantees. We offer a read of the moment. Sport stays unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a freak goal — the script can flip in seconds.
- Let’s be blunt: there’s no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when something looks obvious, it isn’t. Yes, you can lose. You will, at some point.
- Be sensible. Stake small, set a budget and stick to it. Don’t touch money you need for living. And don’t chase losses — it rarely ends well.
- Betting should be entertainment, not a job or an income stream. If it’s taking over, stressing you out or causing problems, step away. If you need help, contact a specialist organisation.
- Ultimately, responsibility is yours. Reading our content means you accept the risk remains, even with the best analysis.
- Important reminder: betting is prohibited for minors and must comply with your local laws. Gambling can spiral (financial loss, family tension, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.
