FC Midtjylland – Nottingham Forest: Tricky Trees with their backs to the wall
Thursday night the MCH Arena will be boiling for this high-stakes Europa League second leg. Nottingham Forest must wipe out a one-goal deficit against a Midtjylland side that’s turned into their personal nightmare this season.
Midtjylland, masters of the smash-and-grab
The Danes have become Forest’s worst headache. They beat them 3-2 in the league back in October and struck again in the first leg with a late Gue-sung Cho winner. Mike Tullberg’s formula is simple and nasty: absorb the pressure, take one for the team, then hit with surgical counters on the few chances they get.
They’ve had a sensational European run (third in their group) and the Wolves are ruthless at the MCH: four wins from four in the Europa and just one goal conceded. The only blot? A nasty slip in the league at Nordsjaelland — 1-0, a 99th-minute sucker-punch — which snapped an eight-game unbeaten streak. The question is whether they’ve shrugged off that frustration.
Nottingham running on empty
It’s grim on the banks of the Trent. Beaten 1-0 in the first leg at home despite total dominance and 22 shots, Vitor Pereira’s men just can’t find the target. Treading water in the Premier League relegation scrap, they were held by Fulham (0-0) at the weekend.
The new Portuguese boss exploded out of the blocks after replacing Sean Dyche (3-0 at Fenerbahçe), but that momentum has leaked away. The Tricky Trees haven’t won in six now (two draws, four defeats). Supporters are losing patience — they’ve scored just once from their last 99 attempts at the City Ground. The one silver lining: they’re traveling better lately, bagging nine goals in their last five away trips. They’ll need that road form to have any shot at a first European quarter-final since 1996.
Probable lineups
FC Midtjylland : Olafsson ; Erlic, Bech Sorensen, Diao ; Osorio, Billing, Bravo, Castillo, Bak ; Simsir, Brumado
Nottingham Forest : Sels ; Aina, Milenkovic, Murillo, Williams ; Sangare, Anderson ; Hutchinson, Gibbs-White, Hudson-Odoi ; Jesus
Football Tips FC Midtjylland vs Nottingham Forest
Midtjylland win or draw
Nottingham’s chronic wastefulness (a miserly 8.4% conversion rate this season) is a massive worry, especially against a side that loves to shut up shop. The English will have to pour men forward and that leaves them open to devastating Danish counters.
Midtjylland have turned their stadium into a European fortress this year. With the psychological edge of having beaten the Tricky Trees twice already, the hosts hold all the cards. Back the double chance for the Danes — at worst they should nick a draw and seal a historic place in the quarter-finals.

First, a word on our predictions
- What we publish on Mathodds are analyses, nothing more. We give an opinion, a snapshot of the moment, never a guarantee. Sport is unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a freak goal… and the whole script can flip.
- Let’s be clear: there’s no risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing is certain. Yes, that means you can lose. It’s inevitable at some point.
- Be sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Don’t touch money you need to live. And don’t chase losses — it rarely ends well.
- Betting should stay a game, not a job or income. If it’s taking over, annoying you or stressing you out, take a break. If needed, talk to a specialist organization. That’s what they’re for.
- Ultimately, you’re responsible. Reading our content means you accept the risk exists and it won’t disappear, even with the best analysis in the world.
- Important reminder: betting is banned for minors and must comply with your country’s laws. Gambling can spiral (money loss, family strain, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.

Information moves fast
A tip is based on what we know when we write it. Between then and kick-off a lineup can change, a player can get hurt, the weather can turn… and the analysis can be out of date. We can’t be held responsible for that.
