Tonight at the Smoothie King Center we’ve got two teams headed in opposite directions. One side: the Pelicans, checked out and already eyeing the draft. The other: the Raptors, overruling expectations and fighting to cling to a Top 6 spot in the Eastern Conference. Toronto are under pressure — but don’t sleep on a local team playing with nothing to lose.
New Orleans Pelicans: offense to paper over the cracks 
In the Bayou, the season’s been a slog for a while. With no chance of even the play‑in, the Pelicans are loose. They’ve still scraped together two wins in their last five — nearly a minor miracle given the broader drift. On offense they’re solid: 115.5 points per game (15th in the league).
Their last outing said it all: they ran past the hapless Wizards (138-118). Zion Williamson, Saddiq Bey and Trey Murphy III all went off, each topping 20 against a defense that was nowhere to be seen. The issue? Defense. They give up 120.2 points a night — a sieve, 27th in the NBA. Against a much better-structured Toronto side, that weak spot could be exposed.
Toronto Raptors: lock it down 
Toronto are the season’s surprise. They sit an unlikely 5th in the East and finally smell the playoff race again. But the standings behind them are tight, and one slip could cost dearly. Right now Darko Rajakovic’s group look a touch gassed — just 2 wins in their last 5. Their offense isn’t elite (113.7 points, 22nd), so they fall back on what they do best: defense.
They only allow 111.7 points and are a nightmare at contesting threes — opponents shoot just 34.7% from deep against them, the third-best mark in the league. Still, they cracked late against Houston (99-113), folding in the fourth (16-27). Apart from an electric RJ Barrett (25 points on 10/16), everyone else missed the cues. If they want to lock down that Top 6 spot, they need a little more punch on the scoreboard.

Bookmakers make the Raptors slight favorites, but with starting center Jakob Poeltl out and Toronto a bit patchy, I wouldn’t trust the straight win. The likely script is clearer: the Raptors will try to kill the pace, lock the perimeter and stop the Pelicans’ scorers from catching fire like they did against Washington. With Toronto’s offense struggling to crack 110 and an intense defensive plan expected, 232.5 looks too high. Back the Under.
