Nottingham Forest – FC Midtjylland: Revenge at the City Ground 
This Thursday the City Ground pulls on its European best for a Europa League last-16 first leg that should spark. Nottingham Forest host FC Midtjylland with one thing on their minds: righting the wrong from October, when the Danes walked in and won 3-2 right here in the group stage.
Forest treading water 
Back on the continental scene after three decades, the Tricky Trees had to go through the play-offs (they finished 13th in the group). A blessing in disguise — Vitor Pereira’s men made a statement by dumping Fenerbahçe, thumping them 3-0 in Turkey before a harmless 2-1 loss at home.
But domestically it’s grim. Saved from the drop only on goal difference, Forest are fighting for their Premier League lives. After a frustrating 2-1 defeat at Brighton they did nab a precious 2-2 draw with Manchester City, which gave the dressing room a needed jolt. Still, Pereira has a major headache: this team concedes too many at home. One win in their last eight home games — the City Ground is no longer the fortress it should be.
Midtjylland, the unexpected bogeyman 
The Danes have been the annoying thorn of this competition. Third in the group with 19 points, they punched their ticket to the last 16 by knocking over big names (Forest, Celtic, Genk, Dinamo Zagreb). Only Roma have managed to beat them so far.
Under Mike Tullberg the engine runs smoothly. Unbeaten in five domestic matches, they’re moving fast in the league (four points off the top) and have just sealed a place in the Danish Cup final. In plain terms: they’re flying, fearless, and know how to trouble English teams — remember their famous win over Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United in 2016.
