Dallas Stars – Colorado Avalanche: the heavyweight showdown out West
This is the must-see clash in the Western Conference this March. The league leaders, Colorado Avalanche, roll into Texas to test a Dallas side that’s been impossible to stop.
The Stars are on a ten-game tear. So can the Avalanche grind this machine to a halt? Time to pick apart this top-of-the-table NHL showdown.
Dallas in another stratosphere
The Stars are flying. Ten straight wins — an outright franchise record. Since the restart Glen Gulutzan’s bunch has steamrolled opponents: Seattle (4-1), Nashville (3-2 in a shootout), Vancouver (6-1) and Calgary (6-1). The result: they sit second in the conference, six points behind tonight’s visitors.
At home they’re a fortress — six wins in a row. Fourth in the league for home points percentage (69.6%) and with the second-best home defence (just 74 goals allowed at home, 2.64 per game). The attack keeps pace too: three or more goals in five of their last six home games.
Injury watch: some big names are out — including Finnish Olympic medallists — Roope Hintz, Radek Faksa and Tyler Seguin (season over after knee surgery) for Dallas, and Mikko Rantanen for Colorado. Hintz and Faksa are expected back for this one; Rantanen will have to wait until the next road trip.
Colorado Avalanche, the boss on the road
Across the ice, the Avalanche aren’t messing about either — four wins in five since the break. Jared Bednar’s men have just posted convincing wins over Chicago (3-1), Los Angeles (4-2) and Anaheim (5-1). They still sit top with a six-point cushion over Dallas and a game in hand.
Away from Denver they’ve been untouchable since late January — four straight wins, scoring at least four goals in each. They’re the league’s best road side (71.7% of points) and the stingiest away defence (2.50 goals against). Expect Joel Kiviranta and Artturi Lehkonen back by the weekend.
But the headline act is Nathan MacKinnon. His assist against the Ducks pushed him past 100 points in just 59 games. Never done before in franchise history. He’s a one-man bulldozer.

NHL prediction Dallas Stars vs Colorado Avalanche
Colorado Avalanche to win
Even with Dallas on a lunatic streak at home, the conference leader still gets the nod. Colorado have less pressure on the ledger — they’ll stay top regardless — but beating the Stars in their own barn would send a loud message to the whole league.
The Avalanche have won five of their last six in regulation and they’re humming, especially on the road where they score in bunches. In a high-profile clash like this I expect the visitors to crash the Texas party with their experience. Backing Colorado to win, but we’ll play it safe with Draw No Bet.

First — a quick word on our tips
- What we publish on Mathodds is analysis, nothing more. We offer an opinion, a read of the moment, never a guarantee. Sport is unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a fluke goal… and everything changes.
- Let’s be clear: there’s no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when something looks “obvious”, it rarely is. Yes, you can lose. It’s inevitable at some point.
- Best approach: be sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Don’t touch money you need to live on. And don’t chase losses — it rarely ends well.
- Betting should stay a pastime, not a job or a source of income. If it’s taking over your life, making you anxious or stressed, step away. If needed, contact a specialist support service. That’s what they’re there for.
- In the end, responsibility is yours. Reading our content means you accept that risk exists and won’t disappear, even with the best analysis in the world.
- Important reminder: betting is prohibited for minors and must comply with your country’s laws. Gambling can spiral (financial loss, family tensions, addiction). Need help? Players Info Service: 09 74 75 13 13 (non-premium call) https://www.gambleaware.org/.

Information can change
A prediction is based on what we know when we write it. But lineups shift, players get hurt, weather turns… and the analysis can become outdated fast. We can’t be held responsible for that.
