Everton – Bournemouth: an opportunity the Toffees must grab
Tuesday night, Everton return to the Hill Dickinson Stadium for a fixture that could shape the rest of their season. Bournemouth arrive with confidence and momentum, keen to prove their resurgence is no fluke and to keep well clear of trouble.
The Toffees come off a scrappy win at Craven Cottage against Fulham, while the Cherries held title hopefuls Aston Villa at the Vitality. Two solid results that make this mid-table clash feel a lot more meaningful than it might on paper.
Everton: a solid base to exploit at home
Down in London on Saturday, Everton fought back to nick three valuable points. A come-from-behind win that extends an interesting run — five league games unbeaten now.
That uptick has Moyes’ men sitting eighth on 37 points, a mere two off a Europa spot. Hard to imagine a few weeks back, given how rocky the start to the campaign was.
They still struggle to finish chances, but the defence has kept them afloat. Conceding just 28 goals, Everton have one of the steadiest rearguards in the division — the platform for this climb up the table.
One nagging issue remains: home form. Just four wins and 16 points at Goodison this season — not enough if they want to push higher. With tougher fixtures looming on the Mersey, this game against Bournemouth is one to win, especially after a 1-0 victory in the first meeting in December.
Bournemouth: confidence back, flaws still there
Losing Antoine Semenyo to Manchester City could’ve derailed them. It didn’t. Bournemouth have kept moving, riding a convincing run of results.
Over the last five rounds only Manchester United and Chelsea have done better. Iraola’s side are unbeaten in that stretch and have breathed a lot easier after pulling away from the drop.
They sit 11th now and could leapfrog Everton with a two-goal win on Tuesday — proof of how far they’ve come since winter.
Still, away days expose their limits. Only two away wins all season makes them one of the weaker travelling sides, and the defence looks shakier on the road: 30 goals conceded away, a number no one in the league matches.
Even so, recent trips to Everton haven’t hurt them: three straight wins there, eight goals scored and just two conceded. That record gives them reason to travel with a bit of swagger.
Likely lineups
Everton :
Pickford; O’Brien, Tarkowski, Keane, Mykolenko; Garner, Gueye; Armstrong, Dewsbury-Hall, Ndiaye; Barry
Bournemouth :
Petrovic; Jimenez, Hill, Senesi, Truffert; Scott, Cook; Rayan, Kroupi, Adli; Evanilson
Football Prediction Everton vs Bournemouth
Under 2.5 goals
This one looks like it could be decided by fine margins. Everton don’t give much away, Bournemouth leak more on the road, and neither side should want to open up early. Expect a measured tempo, patches of stop-start play and few spaces.
The Toffees know their defence is their best weapon at home. Bournemouth bring confidence, but also clear vulnerabilities. Under the lights at Hill Dickinson Stadium we’re likely to see a tight, tense match where every chance counts.
First, a word on our predictions
- What we publish on Mathodds are analyses — opinions based on the moment. They’re not guarantees. Sport is unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a fluke goal and everything changes.
- Let’s be blunt: there’s no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even the “obvious” outcomes don’t always happen. Yes, you can lose. Eventually everyone does.
- Bet sensibly. Stake small, set a budget and stick to it. Don’t touch money you need to live on. And don’t chase losses — it almost never ends well.
- Betting should be a hobby, not a job or income source. If it’s taking over your life, making you stressed or angry, step back. If you need help, contact a specialist service.
- Ultimately, the responsibility is yours. Reading our content means you accept the risk exists and always will, even with the best analysis.
