Atlanta Hawks vs Phoenix Suns – Free NBA prediction and picks – January 23, 2026

Atlanta Hawks – Phoenix Suns: a little sunshine in Atlanta

The Hawks host the Suns in the last meeting of the season between these clubs. Different trajectories, opposite styles — should be an entertaining scrap. Same aim for both: lock a direct playoff spot. Just not in the same conference.

Atlanta Hawks: win thanks to offense or lose ?

The Hawks come off a tight win over the Grizzlies (124-122), but that victory barely conceals a four-game skid beforehand — and in most of those games they looked lost, like the 106-132 thumping by the Celtics. Atlanta is clinging to a Play-In spot for now, but they’re only 1.5 games behind the Bucks.

Their big issue? Defence. Allowing 119.1 points a night puts Quin Snyder’s side among the league’s worst. That forces them to outscore opponents rather than stop them. Thankfully their offence, led by Jalen Johnson, is decent — 117.6 points per game, good for the top ten in the NBA.

Phoenix Suns: why not enter the top 4

Things are humming in Phoenix. Three straight wins have them sitting 5th in the West, 2.5 games off third. Way beyond early-season expectations, and they keep proving they’re for real. The latest win at Philadelphia (116-110) showed they can beat big teams on the road.

On the final leg of their East trip they’ll lean on defence, which is exactly where the Hawks are vulnerable. Allowing just 111.8 points per game, Phoenix has the league’s fifth-best defence. Offensively the return of Jalen Green should help — he adds scoring and playmaking next to Devin Booker and Collin Gillespie.

NBA Prediction Atlanta Hawks vs Phoenix Suns

Suns to win

The Hawks are one of the rare teams who play better on the road than at home. The Suns have shown adaptability and, crucially, a stubborn defence that can throw Atlanta off its game. Atlanta has to score to win. Against top defences they’ve struggled to control the pace, so Phoenix starts with the clear edge.

A quick word on our predictions

  • What we publish on Mathodds is analysis, nothing more. It’s our take on the moment, never a promise. Sport is messy: a red card, a late injury, a freak play — everything can change in an instant.
  • Let’s be blunt: there’s no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when something looks “obvious”, it often isn’t. Yes, you can lose. It happens.
  • Be sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Don’t touch money you need for rent or bills. And don’t chase losses — that never ends well.
  • Betting should stay a game, not a job or income. If it’s taking over your life or causing stress, step away and get help from a specialist organisation.
  • At the end of the day, the responsibility is yours. Reading our content means you accept the risk remains — no matter how good the analysis.
  • Important reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with your local laws. Gambling can spiral (money loss, family tension, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.
