Lyon – Brest: Gones pick up speed, Brest the cautious outsider
Sunday evening the Groupama Stadium hosts a clash of very different ambitions. Lyon, hitting their stride, welcome a Brest side that has found some colour after a shaky start, but still sits short of European standards.
Lyon: Europe in their sights
With steady form, Lyon have re-entered the race. Two seasons running the Gones narrowly missed out on the Champions League. This time the aim is clear: don’t let the chance slip. Since the restart their momentum has been impressive.
The Coupe de France win at Lille (2-1), sealed by Endrick’s first goal in his new colours, stretched a run to five straight wins in all competitions. In the league, Paulo Fonseca’s men have won three of their last four and sit fifth, just two points behind Marseille.
At home Lyon are particularly solid. Six wins in eight Ligue 1 games at the Groupama this season: only Lens and PSG are better. That consistency in front of their fans is a pillar of their revival.
Individually, Pavel Šulc perfectly embodies that collective rise. Arriving last summer, the Czech attacking midfielder quickly imposed himself, already racking up ten goal contributions in 16 league games. A return that changes the shape of Lyon’s attack.
Brest: back to reality, but not surrendering
After a historic season capped by a first-ever Champions League spot, Brest look to be settling back to a level that suits their resources. The start was tricky, but the Pirates have slowly righted the ship.
The big disappointment in the Coupe de France against Avranches left scars, but Eric Roy has regrouped the squad. The 2-0 league win over Auxerre reset the foundations. Since late November Brest have won four of their last five Ligue 1 outings, a run that lifted them to 11th.
Ludovic Ajorque remains the main man up front. Scorer and provider on the last day, the 31-year-old is still a reference, even if his future could be written elsewhere this winter transfer window. Brest advance with a fragile, but real balance.
One recurring problem remains: away trips. Just two wins in eight away games, and no win in Lyon since 2023 — Sunday looks tough.

Football Prediction Lyon vs Brest
Lyon to win
Given current form, Lyon go into this with solid credentials. Brest are improving but still brittle away. In a crowd that backs them and riding a strong run, the Gones look set to extend their streak and keep the pressure on the top three.
First, a word about our predictions
- What we publish on Mathodds are analyses, nothing more. We share an opinion, a snapshot reading, never a guarantee. Sport is what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a goal from nowhere… and the script flips.
- Let’s be clear: there’s no risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, it isn’t. Yes, that means you can lose. It’s inevitable sooner or later.
- Best to stay sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Don’t touch money you need to live. And above all: don’t chase losses, it rarely ends well.
- A bet should be a game, not a job or a source of income. If it takes over your life, annoys you or puts you under pressure, take a break. If needed, talk to a specialised organisation. That’s what they’re for.
- Ultimately, responsibility is yours. Reading our content means accepting the risk exists and won’t disappear, even with the best analysis in the world.
- Essential reminder: betting is banned for minors and must follow your country’s laws. Gambling can spiral (money losses, family tensions, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.
No commitment on our part
Our predictions aren’t a contract. They carry no legal weight. Plain and simple: you can’t use them to claim anything if a bet loses.
Info that can change
A prediction is based on what we know when we write. But a lineup can change, a player can get injured, the weather can turn… and the analysis becomes outdated. We can’t be held responsible for that.
