Estrela da Amadora vs Benfica: ten goals in ten for Pavlidis against a side on four straight defeats Liga Portugal

Vangelis Pavlidis has scored ten league goals in ten appearances this season. Nobody in Liga Portugal has more, and his total is more than half of what Estrela da Amadora have scored as a team.

Benfica take him to the Estadio Jose Gomes on Sunday 8 November, kick-off 20:30 UK time, in round 11. They’re second on 25 points, five behind Porto, with eight wins, one draw and one defeat from ten games. Their 27 goals are the most in the division, and they’ve conceded eight.

Estrela are 12th on ten points. They’ve lost their last four league games: 2-0 at home to Academico de Viseu, 1-0 at Arouca, 2-0 at home to Casa Pia and 2-1 at Moreirense on 31 October.

The head-to-head is one-way traffic. Benfica have won all nine previous meetings, including 4-0 at the Luz in January 2026 and 1-0 in Amadora in August 2025.

Marco Silva’s side played on Thursday night, beating Lech Poznan 3-1 in the Europa League with goals from Rafa Silva, Gianluca Prestianni and Sudakov. That result took them top of the league-phase table and made it six straight wins in all competitions.

I’m not interested in whether Benfica win here. The question is by how many.

Estrela da Amadora: four league defeats in a row and no clean sheet in 12 Estrela da Amadora

Pepa’s side haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last 12 matches. Their league record is two wins, four draws and four defeats, with 15 scored and 19 conceded.

The last month has been the worst of it. Estrela have lost their last four league games and scored once in them. Earlier in the season they drew 3-3 at Rio Ave on 14 September and beat Braga 2-1. Their only win in that spell was a 2-1 cup tie at Fazendense on 17 October, a match they nearly lost.

Home form doesn’t offer much either. Over their last five games at the Jose Gomes they’ve won one, drawn two and lost two, scoring six and conceding nine. Two of those defeats came by 2-0, to Academico de Viseu and Casa Pia.

The goals are shared out. Ianis Stoica, Abraham Marcus and Leandro Antonetti have four each, but Stoica hasn’t scored since September. Lovro Zvonarek got their goal at Moreirense last weekend.

Robinho and Jeremy Arevalo are both unavailable. Pepa has won 20% of his ten matches in charge this season.

Benfica: 27 goals in ten league games, and Pavlidis has ten of them Benfica

Benfica’s only league defeat came at the Estadio do Dragao on 20 September, 3-1 to Porto. Since then they’ve beaten Gil Vicente 3-1, Vitoria Guimaraes 2-0, Moreirense 4-0 away and Santa Clara 2-1 away.

The one flat result of the run was the last league game, a 1-0 home win over Alverca on 2 November. In between they put four past Omonia Nicosia and four past Celtic in the Europa League, and beat Gil Vicente 4-1 in the League Cup.

Marco Silva, appointed on 9 June after leaving Fulham, has Pavlidis and Prestianni doing most of the scoring. Prestianni has six league goals, and he scored again on Thursday.

The absentees are Clement Lenglet and Leandro Barreiro. Silva said on 22 October that Barreiro’s muscle injury wasn’t “one for just one or two weeks”. Dodi Lukebakio has been listed as doubtful.

Benfica have conceded in three of their last five away games, so they aren’t shutting teams out on the road. They’ve still won nine of their last ten in all competitions.

Probable lineup Estrela da Amadora: Linck; Scholze, Luan Patrick, Lekovic, Davin; Hoog Jansson, Serra; Marcus, Zvonarek, Stoica; Antonetti
Probable lineup Benfica: Soares; Bah, Araujo, Circati, Dahl; Sudakov, Palhinha; Rafa Silva, Prestianni, Schjelderup; Pavlidis

Free Football Prediction: Estrela da Amadora vs Benfica

Our prediction: Benfica -1.5 Asian handicap (odds 1.70)

Benfica at around 1.25 to win isn’t worth it. Covering the -1.5 line needs a two-goal win, and Benfica have done that in three of their last six league games, plus against Omonia, Celtic and Lech Poznan in Europe.

Estrela have lost four league games in a row, haven’t kept a clean sheet in 12, and lost 4-0 and 7-0 in two of their last four meetings with Benfica. Their home record over the last five games is one win in five.

The risk is the Alverca game: Benfica laboured to 1-0 at home last weekend, and they played on Thursday. I’d still back them to win by two or more against a side that has scored once in four league matches, and Benfica -1.5 at 1.70 is the pick.

About our free predictions

  • What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
  • Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
  • The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
  • A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
  • Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
  • Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes

A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
