Phoenix Suns vs San Antonio Spurs: Wembanyama’s 52-24-8 and the league’s last-ranked defense
Victor Wembanyama finished Wednesday’s 112-111 win over Dallas with 52 points, 24 rebounds and eight blocks, all career highs. He went 16-of-28 from the field and 15-of-15 at the line, and his free throw with 24.2 seconds left was the winner.
He did it with a virus, and after rolling an ankle in the fourth quarter. He left at 9:11 and returned at 6:05, and he isn’t on the injury list, but we couldn’t find an update on him after that game.
San Antonio has won six straight and is 6-2. Phoenix is 1-5, has lost four in a row, and ranks 30th of 30 in defensive rating at 124.5. The two meet at Mortgage Matchup Center on Monday 9 November, tip-off 9:00pm ET.
Both teams have work to do first. The Spurs play in Sacramento on Friday and in Portland on Saturday, with Phoenix as the third stop on the road, and they’ll have Sunday off. The Suns host Orlando on Thursday and Houston on Saturday, then play the Clippers at home on Tuesday, so this is the first leg of a back-to-back for them.
Last season’s series finished 2-2, with each team winning both of its home games: Phoenix 130-118 and 111-102 in November 2025, San Antonio 121-94 and 101-100 in February and March. This is the first meeting of the new season, and no line had been posted at the time of writing.
Phoenix Suns: 124.3 points allowed, and Booker’s 33 wasn’t enough against Portland
Devin Booker scored 33 against Portland on Wednesday, going 13-for-13 at the line before fouling out, and the Suns lost 132-119. Jalen Green had 22, Mikal Bridges 18 and Dillon Brooks 15, so the offense wasn’t the reason for the defeat.
Booker leads the team at 24.7 points a game, with Bridges at 17.3 and Brooks at 16.5. Phoenix scores 113.3, and its offensive rating of 113.8 ranked 15th in the league through five games.
The defense has conceded 124.3 a game, and the worst of it came early, in the 124-83 loss in Portland on opening night. In the other losses Phoenix gave up 125 in Oklahoma City, 127 to Denver, 116 at Golden State and 132 to Portland, so its one win, 131-122 over the Warriors, is the only time it has outscored an opponent all season.
The pace numbers don’t help. Phoenix ranked 28th at 96.6, which means those points are arriving in fewer possessions than most teams use. The net rating of -10.8 ranked 25th.
Mark Williams is out through at least February after left shoulder surgery, leaving a hole at center against Wembanyama. Jordan Goodwin (right calf) and Rasheer Fleming (left ankle) were both listed out through Thursday’s game, and Goodwin averaged 7.8 points before his injury.

San Antonio Spurs: six straight wins and a fourth-ranked defense on a three-game road swing
Before Wednesday, Wembanyama was averaging 25.7 points, 10.7 rebounds and 3.3 blocks. The Spurs went 5-2 with those numbers, and their defensive rating of 106.9 ranked fourth, so the 52-point night came on top of a team that was already winning.
The backcourt has given San Antonio a second engine. Dylan Harper is at 18.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.3 assists, De’Aaron Fox at 15.9 points and 6.4 assists, and Stephon Castle at 14.7 points with 5.6 rebounds and 5.0 assists. Harper scored 21 against Dallas and Castle 17.
The win streak includes some wide margins: 130-103 over Sacramento, 121-111 over Minnesota and 119-97 over Utah, a game in which Wembanyama needed only 12 points. The Spurs score 116.9 and allow 108.6, and the one close call before Dallas was a 117-111 overtime win in Utah.
Tobias Harris is out through at least Monday with a calf problem, and Jayden Quaintance is out until at least 3 December with a knee injury. Devin Vassell (11.9) and Julian Champagnie (11.1) are the next scorers in the rotation.
The schedule is the one thing working against San Antonio. Monday’s game is the third straight on the road after a Friday and Saturday back-to-back on the West Coast, with a Chicago trip to follow on 11 November. Sunday’s day off helps, and Phoenix’s own schedule isn’t light either, with Orlando and Houston in the four days before.

Our prediction: San Antonio Spurs to win by 6 points or more
The moneyline may open below our 1.45 floor, so we’d take a margin instead. San Antonio’s net rating of +9.2 against Phoenix’s -10.8 is a gap of 20 points per 100 possessions, and the Spurs have won four of their last five games by six or more.
Phoenix did win both home games in this series last season, and Booker’s 24.7 can keep any game close into the fourth quarter. A short Spurs roster at the end of a road trip gives the Suns a chance to stay within reach for a half.
A team ranked 30th in defense with its starting center out for months doesn’t have an answer for what Wembanyama did to Dallas, and Harper, Fox and Castle will find room behind him. Wembanyama’s ankle and his virus are the two things to check before tip-off. If he’s ruled out, we’d drop this pick.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes
A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
