A night spent replaying PSG’s rout
Pape Gueye did not sleep much after Tuesday. Villarreal were beaten 6-0 at home by Paris Saint-Germain on the fourth matchday of the Champions League, and the Senegal midfielder started to pick it apart almost immediately.
Speaking to DAZN, Gueye said it was hard to rest and that the squad is trying to understand what went wrong. It was the first time he has been on a pitch where his team conceded six. Villarreal were four goals down inside the opening quarter of an hour, and the game never recovered from there.

“They knew how to move”
Gueye works with a video analyst to review his games and sharpen how he reads play, so that is who he sat down with to watch this one back. What stood out was the collective movement. He saw Achraf Hakimi turn up beside him and the young Mayulu drifting into his zone, with PSG’s midfielders far from the only ones switching positions.
The result keeps Paris at the top of the league phase with four wins from four, even with several important players missing. Villarreal sit on three points and ninth in La Liga. They travel to Slavia Prague next, while PSG host Roma.
