Algeria – Nigeria: a place in the last four up for grabs
At this stage of AFCON 2025 there’s no room for tinkering. Algeria and Nigeria meet in Marrakech in a straight shootout between two regulars at big African nights. One thing’s clear: a spot in the semis.
Algeria: control above all
The Fennecs have cruised, no rush. Three group games, three wins, and a steady grip against Sudan, Burkina Faso and Equatorial Guinea.
The first real test came in the last 16 against DR Congo. It turned into a closed, very physical affair that held out until the dying seconds of extra time. Adil Boulbina buried the lot with a decisive strike in the 119th minute.
Under Vladimir Petkovic, Algeria look calm and disciplined. The momentum’s solid — 11 wins in their last 14 matches across all competitions. One mental hurdle remains: the quarter-finals have often been the Fennecs’ final stop in recent editions.
Nigeria: efficiency and confidence regained
Nigeria go in with a clear aim: turn this AFCON into revenge after losing the final last time. So far the Super Eagles have done their job — four wins from four.
The win over Mozambique in the last 16 turned heads. Four goals, their first clean sheet of the tournament, and an attack led by Victor Osimhen, perfectly backed by Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams.
Despite some post-match tension, the squad looks united and focused. Experience also favours Nigeria — they’ve reached at least the semis in 15 of their 20 AFCON appearances.
One detail tilts the scales: the Super Eagles have gone four meetings without beating Algeria, including three straight losses.

Football Prediction Algeria vs Nigeria
Nigeria to qualify
This quarter-final looks tight, physical and likely to run long. Algeria know their stuff, but Nigeria have the firepower to turn a match on a fine margin. In a game that could be decided late, the depth and impact of the Nigerian forwards give them a slight edge.
