Champions League: PSG name 16-year-old keeper Arthur Bar

A teenager on the Champions League bench

Arthur Bar is 16 and has never played a professional minute. Tonight he sits on the Paris Saint-Germain bench at Villarreal for the fourth round of the Champions League league phase, kick-off 21:00 local time.

The reason is practical. Third-choice keeper Alessandro Longoni, 18, trained on Monday but is only just back from injury, so Luis Enrique reached down to the under-19s. Bar will sit next to Lucas Chevalier, and it is his first European matchday squad.

He is not a stranger to the senior group. Bar was in the matchday party for Le Mans on 10 October, Lyon on 26 October and Le Havre on 30 October, but never made the team sheet. Tonight he does.

Who is Arthur Bar?

Born in Paris and raised in Vincennes, Bar joined the PSG academy in the summer of 2024. He is a France under-15 international, won the national under-17 title with Paris a few months ago and started this season in that age group before moving up to the under-19s. He turns 17 on 25 January.

According to RMC Sport, the first-team group likes his reach and his work on the line, while his footwork with the ball is still a project. One odd detail from the club: he won PSG’s most recent public-speaking contest.

Bar does not feature in the Youth League, unlike Arthur Vignaud, who starts in goal for the Paris under-19s against Villarreal’s youngsters today. That left the door open for a promotion few would have predicted in September.
