NHL: Pastrnak ends it in the shootout as Boston edges Vegas

Boston lets a two-goal lead go, then wins it anyway

The Bruins led 2-0 at TD Garden and still needed a shootout to beat the Golden Knights 3-2 on Monday. It was Boston’s first shootout of the season, and it ended with a backhand deke and a forehand finish from David Pastrnak against Carter Hart.

James Hagens put Boston ahead in the first period, with Elias Lindholm assisting. Morgan Geekie doubled the lead on the power play early in the second, his second goal in as many games. That man advantage came from a five-minute major and a game misconduct handed to Vegas defenseman Braeden Bowman for elbowing Matt Poitras.

Vegas fights back, Swayman holds firm

Vegas did not fold. Mark Stone cut the gap with a power-play goal later in the second, and Trevor Connelly tied the game with 12:37 left in regulation, with Noah Hanifin getting the assist. Nothing more came in overtime.

Jeremy Swayman made 21 saves in regulation and then stopped all three shootout attempts he faced. Hart made 25 saves at the other end. Shots finished 27-23 in Boston’s favor, and Mitch Marner had two assists for the Bruins.

The win was Boston’s second in a row and leaves the club 9-2-1 in its last 12. Vegas is 1-3-2 over its last six games.
