Ligue 1: Ajorque and Edjouma sink Lorient in Breton derby

An hour of nothing, then Ajorque

Brest took the Breton derby 2-0 at the Moustoir on Monday night, closing out matchday 9 of Ligue 1 with a win that took an hour to arrive.

The first half gave neither side much. No goals, hardly a shot worth remembering. The game turned after the break. In the 69th minute Ludovic Ajorque broke the deadlock for Julien Lachuer’s side, once again showing why Brest lean on him as the reference point up front.

Tosin misses, Brest make it count

Lorient pushed hard late on and had a real chance to level. In the 90th minute Aiyegun Tosin stood over a penalty and missed it.

Brest punished the miss almost at once. In stoppage time, at 90+2, Edjouma made it 2-0 from a Versini assist, and that was that. Lorient had the openings to get back into it, but finished the night without the sharpness when it mattered.

Brest’s next league opponent is Lyon, a club searching for a new coach after Paulo Fonseca’s reported exit. A derby win is a decent way to head into that one.
