Mbilli rewatched the tape and changed nothing
Christian Mbilli has seen the fight again. His opinion hasn’t budged. Speaking on RMC’s Super Moscato Show on Monday, the Frenchman said he never felt in real danger against Canelo Alvarez in Riyadh on Saturday night, and that he can’t make sense of the scorecards.
Alvarez won a unanimous decision and took back the WBC super middleweight belt Mbilli had held since January, when Terence Crawford’s retirement left it vacant. It is the first professional defeat of Mbilli’s career. He also had a point taken off for a punch behind the head.

One judge gave him five rounds, the others far fewer
Mbilli’s sharpest complaint was about the cards themselves. One judge handed him five rounds, he noted with some irony, while the others gave him between one and three. He wondered aloud whether a few of them had really been at the fight.
His own count is different. Mbilli says he threw more punches, more jabs and kept up a higher volume, and that he set the pace and applied the pressure from start to finish. He accepts that Alvarez landed with more power and looked the calmer man late on. Still, rewatching it, he sees the Mexican ahead by a round or two at most, and only if you give him the nod at all.
“Officiated like a champion,” he said, he wins the fight easily. He added that if the decision goes to Alvarez, that doesn’t bother him, but not with those numbers.
His camp had already questioned the verdict over the weekend. Now the fighter himself has put his name to it, with no sign he plans to let it go.
