Two tiebreaks, no breaks to spare
Lorenzo Musetti needed two tiebreaks to get past Hubert Hurkacz on the Rolex Paris Masters center court this morning, 7-6 (7/3), 7-6 (12/10). Hurkacz led 4-3 early in the first set, and the match never really loosened after that. The second tiebreak ran to 12-10, the sort of finish that leaves very little between the winner and the loser.
Musetti was the first man on court for the main draw on the opening Monday, and he set the tone for a day that has already seen several seeds and qualifiers move through quickly.

A new world No. 1 in the way
The reward is a heavyweight second-round tie. Musetti will face Alexander Zverev, who became the official world No. 1 on Monday. The German was presented with a trophy on the center court this afternoon to mark the milestone, and he opens his own tournament on Wednesday.
Zverev arrives as one of the two favorites in Paris, with Jannik Sinner absent because of a knee problem and Carlos Alcaraz coming off the title in Vienna on Sunday. For Musetti, two tight sets against a big server are decent preparation for what comes next.
